Who Knew Bad Manners Were Dangerous?

By Wyatt Earp | February 19, 2009

happy-gilmore1Apparently in Massachusetts, they can almost get you killed. Remember that the next time you break wind and don’t say, “Excuse me.”

I think blaming the dog is okay, though.

FALMOUTH, Mass. – A man faces assault charges after allegedly striking another man with a golf club in an argument over manners. Police told the Cape Cod Times that a 50-year-old man leaving a gas station in town on Monday morning held the door open for a 38-year-old man.

FORE!!!

Police said the 38-year-old man did not thank the other man, who responded by uttering a sarcastic “thank you.”

And if there is anything I hate, it’s sarcasm.

The two men got into an argument before the 38-year-old went to his car to get a golf club, which he allegedly used to strike the victim several times in the stomach and legs. Police said the victim suffered minor injuries. ()

The offender allegedly had no problem with the assault, but was distressed that after he swung the club, the victim faded to the left.

That pisses me off too. It’s not too much to ask to be acknowledged for holding a door. A simple “thank you” goes a long way. It doesn’t cost anything, and you don’t have to really mean it.

When I don’t get the “thank you” I think I deserve, I give them a loud “YOU”RE WELCOME”. I almost always get a “whatever” kinda look. But it makes me feel better. I’ve never had anyone hit me with a golf club (yet).

I’ve had “liberated” women berate me for holding the door open for them – they’re capable people, they can get their own door, they don’t need any help from a man, etc. Usually, while they’re in mid-rant, I’ll just let the door go. The look of surprise right before it bops them in the nose is always interesting.

RT – I thought Sully was involved. Heh.

Wagonsux – I know you. You’re this close to swinging one, though.

    Doghouse – That’s awesome!!!
