Mayor Won’t Resign Over Liaison With Teen

PORTLAND, Ore. — The mayor of Portland, Ore., told city commissioners Sunday he will not resign despite calls for him to do so after he admitted he lied and asked a teenager to lie about their sexual relationship.
Mayor Sam Adams publicly apologized this past week for lying early in his campaign about the relationship with an 18-year-old man in 2005.
City Comissioner Randy Leonard told the Associated Press that Adams left him a phone message Sunday morning saying he had decided to remain in office. (H/T - FOXNews)
Further down in the article, the teenager stated that the relationship was consensual. That’s swell. I have no problem with the relationship, if it was consensual and the teenager was, in fact, 18 years old.
I do have a problem with Adams’ lying and his attempt to get the teenager to lie as well. If he’ll lie about this, how can the people of Portland trust him to not lie about other matters?
Personally, I am not drinking Sam Adams beer until the mayor resigns. Heh.

As a resident of Oregon, I apologize that our scandal seems pretty weak compared to Blagojevich’s. We’ll try and do better in the future, but there are some parallels.
Adams does the butt slam dance and then lies about it.
Blagojevich lies and now he will be doing the butt slam dance in Federal prison.
The great circle of life continues.

John D - The funny thing was that I checked three or four stories AND the mayor’s home page. There was no mention of his party affiliation on any of them!
