Paul Newman 1925-2008
By Wyatt Earp | September 27, 2008
Truly one of the greatest actors of our time.
Paul Newman, the legendary actor whose steely blue eyes, good-humored charm and advocacy of worthy causes made him one of the most renowned figures in American arts, has died of cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83. (H/T - CNN)
Although he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1986’s The Color of Money - a terrific film - I will always remember him as Reggie Dunlop from Slap Shot:

He meant a lot to a many people, most importantly, his family.

He’ll be missed probably more for his philanthropy than for his movies.
Related note: The famous speech by Strother Martin in “Cool Hand Luke” was almost cut from the original for being too talky in an action movie.

If Hanrahan’s wife’s a dyke, does that make him a fag?

I was certain that the level of language was way lower than real people engaged in Hockey, but other than that it was an interesting film. Actually I was shocked and offended by the language - I guess if I were to rate his best, The Hustler, Hombre and Absence of Malice. But that is just me.

RT - Agreed. Terrific person, by all accounts.
Trek - And that would be a crime worthy of a chain gang.
Randal - I almost posted the video of his taunt on the ice. Great scene.
Earl - It’s about par for hockey. At least in the league I play in.
Admiral - Godspeed.
