Start Snitchin’ – A Novel Idea

By Wyatt Earp | June 13, 2008

Finally, some good news out of Philly’s toughest neighborhoods.

‘Earthquake’ game & cookout

Southwest Philadelphia community activist Paul “Earthquake” Moore will hold his annual “Start Snitchin’ ” basketball game/cookout tomorrow in the gym of the New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 7001 Woodland Ave, Southwest Philadelphia.

The event will include a good-spirited “Fathers Against Violence vs. Start Snitchin’ ” basketball game. Fathers are encouraged to bring their families out to participate and mingle with neighbors. The event is free, but donations will be accepted. (The Philadelphia Daily News)

No matter what the response – and knowing this city, many of the thugs will ignore it – this man should be applauded for his efforts. Thank you, Mr. Moore. This police detective appreciates what you’re doing.

  1. AJ Lynch says:

    Wyatt:

Write a post sometime with your Top Ten policing recommendations for big cities. Maybe you could get it printed in a large paper as an OPED (some of those pay you for it if they print it).

  2. RT says:

It all begins with people trying to make a difference. While not everyone is helped that needs the positive influence, many will be and that is a good thing.

Hopefully, people will begin to cooperate with law enforcement, realizing that cooperation is the only way to safer streets.

  3. Wyatt Earp says:

AJ Lynch – Sorry, but radio interviews are about the limit of my exposure at the moment.

RT – One can only hope. Mr. Moore is on the right track, though. It’s good to see.

  4. I don’t quite know how you encourage this, but the COURAGE it took for that stance should be PUBLICLY acknowledged from now until forever, particularly in such an urban and obvious venue as Philadelphia. I can only hope that this may be the beginning of some kind of TREND.

  5. I’m sorry but, reading the above, here’s how you MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

In Copdom, you STOP all the BULLSHIT BOUTIQUE units created by the Grant-Grabbing Assholes of the late 90′s and early 2000′s, and roll EVERYONE back into PATROL functions and give them and harness them with RESPONSIBILITY for EACH and EVERY CALL they encounter. Give them the TOOLS and the TIME you allegedly proffer to your ACRONYM UNITS.

You want problems solved?? Let STREET COPS do it.

  7. USA_Admiral says:

    I hope this helps.

Jacksonville has been invaded with “no snitching” movement lately.

  8. leoni2 says:

Finally, someone who’s willing to say enough is enough and is willing to back it up wth more than just talk. Good for you, Mr. Moore.

  9. The Snitch says:

    Mr. Earp,

We may come from very different perspectives in the city, but we can agree on one thing. We have got to start snitchin’.

But no matter how much our logic makes sense to us, we’ve got to find a way to communicate it to the ones that need to be convinced the most. If you already buy into “Stop Snitching” then there is probably something fundamentally different about the way you think. We need to find a way to speak to that person.

I’ve created a website for that purpose: To open a dialogue for opposing views to come together and find common ground. And hopefully we can learn to speak each other’s languages. Philly unite!
