Obama Uses Police Memorial For Porta Potties

By Wyatt Earp | June 5, 2008

The porta potties standing on the Portland Police Memorial.

I know that this story is a week old – I missed it with the hectic week – and it has probably been written about ad nauseum, but I couldn’t let it go without comment. Here’s the article:

PORTLAND, OR – Police officers in Portland, Oregon, are still waiting for an apology from Barack Obama after campaign staffers of his recent rally in Portland, Oregon, setup porta potties directly on top of the Portland Police Memorial, which honors the agency’s 25 fallen police officers.

The Obama rally drew a crowd of over 75,000 people.

Officer Thomas Brennan, who was working overtime at the rally, took a picture of the offending toilets, with the American flag still at half mast because of Police Officers Memorial Day, directly behind them. The local law enforcement memorial service had been held at the site only five days earlier.

Despite a large amount of open areas in the vicinity, the campaign staffers claimed the toilets were placed on the memorial for safety reasons to accommodate wheelchair access.

Okay, if you’re not enraged enough yet, this might do the trick:

The Obama campaign has not responded to requests for an apology. (H/TPolice Link, via Sebastian)

Look, despite what some will tell you, I’m not completed blinded by Party lines. I realize that the decision to desecrate a memorial for officers killed in the line of duty was not one made personally by Obama. It was made by one of his Portland stooges. However, the fact that the campaign – or better yet, the senator – has made no mention of this despicable act completely amazes me.

The Portland, Oregon Police Department deserves an apology from Senator Obama and his campaign. To do any less is a slap in the face to police officers everywhere.

    That is absolutely outrageous.

The story’s a week old? First I’ve heard it.

    Gee, surprising.

Of course this couldn’t be reported about “loudly”. Don’t you know the folks in the Obama camp have whined endlessly about how much bad press he’s been getting lately?

You’re correct Wyatt. His lack of apology speaks volumes and it is a slap in the face.

    Unbelievable.

Could have been the PortaPottee crew were all former felons, and they made the decision on where the positioning was done. Out of towners wouldn’t have known anything – sounds like really bad local coordination, and I doubt that Obama’s campaign has any real idea of the outrage, or they would have answered. Keep talking about it loud enough and they will answer.

    That’s pretty shitty.

The Obamessiah™ and his Socialist ilk shit upon individual rights, so this is just another example of the regard (or lack thereof) that they hold for those who uphold the individual liberties that are guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Imagine Teh Outrage!™ that would have erupted if a Republican campaign had so much as put up a hand cleaning station within 100′ of a Black Panther/Rainbow/PUSH Coalition “memorial”… The Wailing and Gnashing of Teeth!™ would have been headline news 24/7 and they’d be calling for civil rights violation investigations.

    Asshats.

This is the first I have heard about it so apparently, it has not been reported very loudly.

This stinks. He could at least pretend to apologize.

Haven’t seen that. Don’t wait for an apology though – they probably still have the Che picture up too.

Dorkelina – Yeah, I was surprised this hasn’t made the news, too. /Snark.

Snigs – Not even an apology from the staffer that did this. It’s a disgrace.

Earl – I would hope so, but a lot of bloggers have already tackled the story to no avail.

    BWH – Very punny.

B.C. – At least at a Black Panther Memorial, the potties would be appropriate.

Kim – He doesn’t care. Why would he?

JimmyB – Get ready for eight years of this nonsense. There’s no way this guy loses the general. Far too many people are uninformed, and believe the MSM’s claims that he’s the Obamessiah.

Let’s see if images work on this new baby!

Tech Note – Jim: You can add images from another source, like photobucket, if you just put it in a normal html image tag.

effing Ridiculous! Just one more sign of the lack of regard for the ‘little’ people that actually do all the work…
His campaign is McGovern all over again!
