PSC Blue Kickers: 2011 Philly Indoor Champs!
By Wyatt Earp | March 27, 2011
I thought about giving this a big, suspenseful write-up, but honestly, it wasn’t a suspenseful game. We found out that we were playing Bridesburg in the title game because they beat the undefeated Holy Terrors in overtime. That was (hopefully) good news for us, because we beat Bridesburg 5-0 earlier in the season. When we got to the gym, Kyle seemed very relaxed. If he was nervous, he didn’t let it show.
The teams took the first five minutes feeling each other out before the Blue Kickers (Kyle’s team) went into overdrive. They scored first, and never looked back. By the half if was 3-0, and Kyle wasn’t seeing many shots. He did, however, make an incredible save before halftime. Bridesburg fired a point-blank shot at Kyle, which he blocked with his hands. The ball flew up into the air as two opposing players rushed at him. Kyle jumped up and caught his own rebound, most likely stopping a sure goal. He stood up, looked at his teammates, and tapped his heart like, “God, that was close!”
They kept it up after the half, and soon it was 5-0. The offense played well, but the defense completely shut Bridesburg down. Not many shots got to Kyle, and the ones that did he saved easily. His only tough one was a shot he fell down to save, and held onto as a Bridesburg kicked him in the face. The kid was going for the ball, missed, and hit Kyle in the mush.
Late in the second half, Kyle’s coach wanted to make absolutely sure they got the win, so the offense kept pressing. When it got to 7, he called a time out, pulled in the boys and said, “No one takes another shot on goal.” The kids answered the call and passed it around for the last five minutes until the final whistle.
After the game, I was wondering how a team that beat the almost unbeatable Holy Terrors played so poorly. I think beating the Terrors was Bridesburg’s Super Bowl, and they came out flat for this game. Only thing I can think of.
Here’s how they reacted after the final whistle:
Kyle was ecstatic that he earned a shutout in the championship game, but he was the first one to credit his teammates, saying, “Dad, the offense was great today, and the defense shut them down.” He was right. This entire season was a team effort, brought about by very hard work.
Kyle finished the season with a record of 8 wins, 0 losses, and 2 ties. In those ten games, he let in a total of 9 goals, and earned 5 shutouts. Those are amazing stats for indoor soccer. He earned his first-ever spot on the All-Star team, and his first-ever soccer championship. We’re all very proud of him and his team.
Congratulations to the Philadelphia Soccer Club Blue Kickers, 2011 Philadelphia Department of Recreation Indoor Soccer Champions!

Congrats to Kyle and his team. I know you are one proud father.
Hannah (age 4) wants to know what kind of gun is in your banner at the top of the page because she wants one when she is big enough. (I told her she has to be older.)

JT – He does pretty well for himself in the maturity realm. At least in public.
Danny – Thanks. It was a great game to cap off a great season. And the outdoor season begins next Sunday.
Kim – Thanks, I am. The gun is Wyatt Earp’s Buntline Special. You can read about it here.
Piper – He’s gonna want to visit sometime in August now, ya know.
Jay – Kyle and Erik had great indoor seasons. Kyle’s lacrosse season started on Tuesday, and he’ll be playing that and outdoor soccer this spring. Busy, busy, busy.
Ingineer66 – Thanks. They all worked very hard for it.

Loved their reaction. Yay, Blue Kickers! (Have to admit, I totally love the name Holy Terrors.)

Congratulations to yours and you Wyatt.
This cleanses the pallet of all the political and social jack-assery currently raining down on us sideways. Family puts things in perspective nicely

AWESOME!
congrats to the Blue Kickers!
my daughter had her last game on Saturday too for indoor – they were down by one at the end and she was open and screaming – the time ran out so they lost – and she started crying! hates to lose. she was terrible! if she’d been on that Bridesburg team she’d have started a fistfight. (she nearly did earlier in her game with a girl on the other team who was shadowing her)
does this reflect poorly on my parenting? probably so.
meanwhile, Kyle reflects EXCELLENTLY on yours!

Jon – They had a bit of a goalie controversy during the summer. I think that’s over now. Kyle is the definite #1.
911 – Coach Dave is great. The kids would walk on hot coals for him.
Orchid – Eh, she’s competitive. That’s a good thing – as long as she controls it. And any good that comes from Kyle is due to Mrs. Earp. Trust me.
Dr. Evil – Maybe I can have him tour the neighborhood, winning me money for every save he makes?
Bob – It was a good weekend. Now if it could warm up a bit for tomorrow’s lacrosse practice . . .
