Chinese Woman Sues Cinema

By Wyatt Earp | September 10, 2010

Have you been to the movies recently? It’s an arduous task filled with a half hour of commercials and previews before the film even starts. Well, a Chinese woman is fighting back by suing a cinema for wasting her time.

For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country .

A Chinese woman is suing a cinema and the distributors of domestic box-office hit “Aftershock” for wasting her time by showing 20 minutes of commercials before the movie, state media said Tuesday.

Chen Xiaomei claims the Polybona International Cinema in the northern city of Xian and film distributors Huayi Brothers Media Corporation should have told her how long the pre-movie advertisements lasted, Xinhua news agency said. Chen, who is a lawyer, has accused Polybona and Huayi Brothers of wasting her time and violating her freedom of choice.

Personally, I hope she wins and sets a precedent for this country to follow.

Ditto. And the same goes for the promos on DVDs. Pain in the lower back to keep hitting the ‘skip’ button.

Robert B. – Amen to that. We’ll tack it on as a rider.

Huh. I didn’t think the Chinese had much in the way of
    Freedom of Choice.
OTOH, I wouldn’t mind a lawyer doing that HERE. Mofo’s make you pay an arm and a leg (in NYC now it’s $11 a ticket) to see a movie and then waste your time with commercials and promos and crap. And then whatever movie it is will have “product placement” all over the damn place.

HBO is cheaper. VOD is cheaper. I never go to the movies. Surround sound and a 72″ HD TV Projector take care of all my needs.

    Stay home and TIVO everything.

I hope a lawyer here takes notice.

Real – It’s getting so that I rarely go to the movies anymore. They’re ruining the entire experience with their advertising garbage.

Old NFO – A very good idea. Never thought I’d say that.

Danny – Your TV is almost twice as big as mine. I’ve got 41″ HDTV. Bastard.

Rick – But then they would be doing something useful for a change.
