The Most Amazing Soccer Goal Of 2010

By Wyatt Earp | April 18, 2010

And it’s only April. Whether you’re a fan of soccer or not – I am – you have to admire this piece of fantastic footwork put on by .

Inter Milan defender Maicon spectacularly broke a 0-0 deadlock in the 75th minute of Friday’s Derby d’Italia against Juventus with a superb display of juggling that he turned into a perfect volley out of the reach of Juve goalkeeper Gigi Buffon. A man up following Momo Sissoko’s red card in the 37th minute, Inter sealed the victory that put them back atop Serie A with a second goal from Samuel Eto’o in stoppage time, sending Juventus fans already demanding a refund on their season tickets into a slightly deeper depression.

Even more impressive because of his actions after that shot.

It’s one of those rare moments in sports when you see a truly amazing play. Reminds me of one time when the Cubs were in Pittsburgh. They were ahead of the Pirates by a run or two in the 4th inning (I think), with bases loaded and Sammy Sosa at bat. He hit the ball and did his trademark hop. I couldn’t believe it at first until I saw the ball go into the seats. I was jumping up and down with excitement at having seen Sosa hit a grand slam. I haven’t seen a grand slam hit since.

Mark – Agreed. He looked like he was holding back tears of joy.

Morgan – I’ve never seen one live, but I have been at a Phils game when they won in the bottom of the ninth with a homer. Awesome.
