Obama Sends Ships, Missiles To Gulf
By Wyatt Earp | February 1, 2010
It took him more than a year, but it would seem that President Obama has finally seen the light regarding Iran. Fed up with their threats – apparently they plan to deliver a “telling blow” to the world on February 11th – he has immediately ordered ships and Patriot missile shields to the area.
Those negotiations without preconditions are working out great, huh Mr. President?
Tension between the US and Iran heightened dramatically today with the disclosure that Barack Obama is deploying a missile shield to protect American allies in the Gulf from attack by Tehran.
The US is dispatching Patriot defensive missiles to four countries – Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait – and keeping two ships in the Gulf capable of shooting down Iranian missiles. Washington is also helping Saudi Arabia develop a force to protect its oil installations.
Had the roles been reversed, the libs would be saying this move was a “deployment for oil!”
American officials said the move is aimed at deterring an attack by Iran and reassuring Gulf states fearful that Tehran might react to sanctions by striking at US allies in the region. Washington is also seeking to discourage Israel from a strike against Iran by demonstrating that the US is prepared to contain any threat.
The deployment comes after Obama’s attempts to emphasise diplomacy over confrontation in dealing with Iran – a contrast to the Bush administration’s approach – have failed to persuade Tehran to open its nuclear installations to international controls. The White House is now trying to engineer agreement for sanctions focused on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, believed to be in charge of the atomic programme.
Hmm, that’s interesting, since this was Obama’s policy on Iran when he was trying to get elected:
Opposed Bush-Cheney Saber Rattling: Obama and Biden opposed the Kyl-Lieberman amendment, which says we should use our military presence in Iraq to counter the threat from Iran. Obama and Biden believe that it was reckless for Congress to give George Bush any justification to extend the Iraq War or to attack Iran. Obama also introduced a resolution in the Senate declaring that no act of Congress – including Kyl-Lieberman – gives the Bush administration authorization to attack Iran.
Deploying Patriot missiles and ships to the Persian Gulf? Sounds like American saber-rattling to me.
Don’t get me wrong; I agree with this move, but it dramatically contrasts the difference between Candidate Obama and President Obama. Playing president is easy. Actually being president? Not so much.

The leadership in Iran still needs their boogeyman to blame everything on….
You can’t just take away their “great Satan” without a fight.

That makes me wonder if my timeline isn’t off.
I’ve been expecting Iran and Russia for sure, and maybe NoKo and China, to start something up in the spring Invasion season starts late spring in Georgia, and I figure they would doubt Obama’s ability to deal with both crises at the same time in addition to destroying the Constitution.
If Obama is acting all war mongery, that must mean that someone said, “If you don’t do this there will be a major war tomorrow“.

Did someone shine a laser pointer at his forehead? LOL
Evidently Israel has been, behind closed doors, pleaded with to “not do” something again. Just how close they are/were to really doing something, is manifested in this lastest move by obambi (albiet behind the scenes). A cutoff move or not to keep Israel from striking, it is still
a strategically sound move to intercept any retaliatory
missles in case Israel does strike, as well as launch a few of our own into the maelstrom should the spark be
struck. Just targeting the Republican Guard for sanctions will do little if anything, and is smoke and mirrors sanction wise. Even if Hillary is hummphing and hawing about China, with the amount we now owe them and ever more increasing under obambi, that files down to nubs any real teeth we might have had to put into sanctions.
Of course you guys know me by now..lol..I think the Samson Doctrine should be a premptive mode as far as Israel is concerned. I wouldn’t balme them in the least.

Sully – Of all the Satans in the world, we’re the best? Whoo hoo! We’re#1
Veeshir – You can’t sneeze without reading about the Koreas firing shots across each other’s bow anymore.
Jon – Nor would I. They are in the most immediate danger, so they should fire the first shot.

Am sure Israel has a handle on what really is going on over in their neck of the woods. If the threat from Iran is great enough, they will strike and do it quickly. As for Obama, he doesn’t have a clue.

[...] No, this is not an act of a war-monger, but the right decision, but just imagine if Bush had done this? What would the Left had said? It took him more than a year, but it would seem that President Obama [...]

As much as I applaud this move (it actually grates my teeth to applaud him for any reason), I’m still not real comfortable with having J Carter on steroids as CIC. Since I was serving under Carter (actually he’s the reason I didn’t re-up) I understand the frustration of serving under an incompetent POTUS, and this guy scares the heck out me for the safety of my son (currently serving in Quatar). The only thing worse than a poorly run war is a poorly run war with an idiot as CIC.

I attended an in-service on emergency response to terrorism last week. The speaker was the head of Israel’s Magen David Adom (The Israeli national EMS service). He intimated that the MDA is all but expecting some “incident” in the next few weeks.
