Police Officer Fired Over Breakfast Sandwiches

By Wyatt Earp | September 16, 2008

Note to self: If you’ve got a craving for a sandwich, it’s a good idea to pay for it before leaving the store.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. ― A Rockaway Township police sergeant’s hunger for some breakfast sandwiches has cost him his job.

Those sandwiches better have had BACON in them. Then, I can see you risking your job. I mean, it’s BACON!

Sgt. Christopher Stahl pleaded guilty Monday to theft for walking out of a Quick Chek store in Rockaway Borough with eight breakfast sandwiches worth nearly $30.

And a sergeant, no less? Way to show some quality supervision there, Sarge. Dumbass.

Under his sentence in state Superior Court, the 39-year-old Stahl will have to pay $100, and he loses his job. (H/TCBS3)

So, this guy lost his career, pension, and self-respect over $30 in sammiches? How’s that working out for ya? Thank you, Christopher Stahl, for disgracing every one of us who wears the badge.

A $100 fine, lost his job and now has that criminal record to put on his employee application for the rest of his life. I hope they gave him a little crow to eat with his sandwiches.

There has to be more to the story. I find it hard to believe any cop would risk their job by refusing to pay $30 for sandwiches.

Was there a “prior understanding” that cops ate for free at this establishment? There are food stores that have policies about cops/firemen not paying for certain things. Did he walk out “assuming” the food was on the arm? Did he just forget to pay? (That happened to me once on Wildwood’s Boardwalk). If any of these are true, when it was brought to his attention was he allowed to then make payment? If he was a civilian, more than he’d be permitted to cough up $30, and walk away.

If he took the food, then refused to pay because of his position, then to Hell with him. But…… There has to be more to this.

I tried to emphasize “rufusing” with the Bold type. Obviously I did something wrong.

Deanna – Well, everything does taste better with BACON!

    Sully – I did, I did!

KVegas – Can’t make this stuff up.

Wagonsux – Entirely possible. Lord knows that we get held to a ridiculous standard than the Average Joe. If this is true, the guy deserves to be fired, if not, then I’ll recant.

However, the sergeant did plead guilty . . .

Oh, and I fixed that bold for ya.

Keep in mind that not all of us stereotype the police. I know it’s common for the low life to do so but I think your average “Joe” citizen knows that cops are like any other group of people. Just because there are a few bad ones (or in this case dumb asses) in the bunch doesn’t make us think you are all like that.

I don’t think you should feel any embarrassment at all. A moron slips through the cracks in every profession now and then. I sure hope this moron liked them sandwiches. He paid enough for them. Hopefully he doesn’t have a wife and kids that also have to pay for his stupidity.

    Joe

I just want to know if he was going to eat all eight of those sandwiches. He must have been really hungry.

One goof ball can screw it up for every one. I have one question were the sandwiches worth all you lost?
