The Perfect Gift For A Nursing Home

By Wyatt Earp | February 22, 2012

This story is a combination of good news and bad news. The good news is that some Good Samaritan donated a piano to a Michigan nursing home.

The bad news is that said Samaritan apparently used the piano as his gun safe.

Police say an unloaded gun has been found inside a piano that was donated to a southeast Michigan nursing home years ago. Staff at Whitehall Healthcare Center in Pittsfield Township, 5 miles south of Ann Arbor, found the gun Friday in a case inside the piano.

Pittsfield Township deputy police chief Gordy Schick says he suspects the Ruger .22 caliber pistol was hidden long before the musical instrument was donated to the home.

Great, now the Crazy Cat Lady is packing heat.

Perhaps the only penetrator in that nursing home?

Looks like a Mark I. Great little plinker!

    ……..and a Bull barrel

  4. Rob in Katy says:

but the new ruger 1911 has a threaded barrel and a better grip, still for free and to keep the loony nursing home zombies at bay – score!

  5. Wes S. says:

Well, that’s one way to cut down on elder abuse. Although Ruger’s diminutive .22 Bearcat sixgun might better fit the hands of little old ladies. My grandma swore by hers…

    ;)

Any one know the recoil on the Beretta 84FS .380? Just wondering what to ask for when they put me away. Wyatt if you happen to pick one up at a crime scene, would you pop off a few and let me know? thinking about getting one for the wife for her CHL, 32/380 is the smallest that they will allow you to qualify in TX for the CHL. Darn the sucker is high, $658!!

All us geezers should pack. What, like we can run or kick ass?
    ‘Sides a 1911 loaded wit’ 9 is two pounds…a cop is 250lbs.
    What would you carry?

  8. Rob in Katy says:

    Skip,
I like toting either my Ket-tec .380, very nice pocket gun for shorts. I love my Springfield Micro Compact with the Crimson Trace grips, shoots good, recoil is not bad, at least it doesn’t bother me at 53, none of my buddies like it, but they are just cough, cough…

  9. JT says:

Is this the same nursing home that ya got the hate mail from ?

Those Bingo games can get pretty contentious.

Maybe some resident arranged to have a gun smuggled in (Operation Slow and Deliberate) to ensure a fair game.

    Wyatt:
Well if THAT doesn’t hit a sour note…I dunno WHAT does.
(at least the CATS will be safe…lol)

Amazing stuff – who knew that Yamaha pianos were considered legal “holsters”?
And always check your donations before…well…donating them.

I gotta agree with SKIP, too.
I carry a GUN because a COP is just TOO damn heavy.
And when seconds count, the police are mere minutes away.

    ;)

    Stay safe out there.

I got the very same model Ruger as my first gun, more than 30 years ago. Still have it, and it still shoots great. A little tricky to dissassemble at first, but once you’ve done it a couple times, easy squeezy lemon peasy.
