Chalk Up Another Win For The Good Guy
By Wyatt Earp | December 12, 2011
And, in my opinion, they don’t come any more good than Tim Tebow, who won his sixth straight game yesterday.
This may shock you, but yesterday saw another come from behind win by my Broncos, who can’t seem to get the ball moving until the fourth quarter. That’ll be a problem come playoff time – God willing – but now we’re just riding the wave.
In a league where dog killers, domestic abusers and thugs who shoot themselves in the leg, it’s nice to see a genuine good person get some press. Not that Tebow is looking for it. He is just looking to keep the Broncos atop the AFC West.
It was Denver’s sixth straight win, and half of them have come in OT since Tebow was promoted to starter.
After failing to score on their first 11 possessions, the Broncos (8-5) erased a 10-0 deficit in the final 2:08 of regulation. Tebow hit Demaryius Thomas with a 10-yard touchdown pass, then got the ball back with 58 seconds left and drove Denver downfield for Prater’s kick.
Credit where it’s due: the Broncos’ defense was awesome yesterday, and Matt Prater nailed a 59-yard kick with three seconds left to send the game into overtime – before winning it with a 51-yarder. I don’t expect much from this team in the postseason – certainly not against the Patriots next week – but I didn’t expect much this season. Funny how things turn out.
It’s also funny how Tebow is silencing the haters. Week after glorious week.

My my….and I was starting to think I’d be the only one excited for the Brady/Tebow matchup coming up next Sunday.
Why it isn’t being moved to prime-time is anybody’s guess- I mean, aren’t we at that time of year where there’s the flex-schedule?
It’s gonna be a good one Fenway.
Time to bring out the old Tug McGraw line: “Ya gotta believe!”
It’s painful to see all the Christian bashing going on every time Tebow wins another. Keep up the good works, Tim!!
This Chiefs fan finds the lack of faith in Tim Tebow…disturbing.
Seriously, I’m baffled by the Tebow hate, especially given that he’s winning. There’s quite a few backup QBs out there with MUCH worse records as starters (KC’s Tyler Palko being a prime example; Palko’s inept performance in place of the injured Matt Cassel, more than anything else, probably just got Todd Haley fired by my Chiefs this morning) that don’t get the hate that Tebow does just for being a devout Christian.
And I’m also baffled by how the Broncos’ management, especially John Elway, have until recently been undercutting Tebow. You’d think Elway, of all people, would appreciate the need to build a team around a rookie QB and give him time to develop; Elway was a disaster during his first several years as the Broncos’ starter, but they stuck with him. (IIRC, Elway was so bad, that at one point an irate Broncos fan killed his dog out of spite.)
I’ve heard that part of the reason Denver fired Josh McDaniels is that the team management didn’t agree with McDaniels’ decision to draft Tebow. I’d say, based on Tebow’s performance, that that’s one thing McDaniels got right.
OK, Tebow is a work in progress. So what? If you give Tebow a good QB coach, a full offseason to work on his mechanics and techniques – something he didn’t have with the strike-shortened offseason – and a couple of years to develop, I’d say Denver is set at QB. Assuming they give him half a chance.
In the meantime, Tebow has me seriously contemplating the unthinkable: rooting for Denver.

You said it. Funny how people are so threatened by a guy who is setting a good example. Felons get a pass. Good guys get riduicule. Sad.
And all you Philly area folks, don’t forget our man, No. 20, Brian Dawkins, leading the Denver defense. Even though age has taken some of his skills away, his smarts and leadership are big-time contributions.
I am glad to see Tim’s critics quieting down
[...] Facebook, and sporadic headlines I might catch of a sport I don’t actually follow. I know we have a Broncos fan in Philly who appreciates that the team didn’t hire dog killer, and one of my close friends from [...]
Wyatt:
I love what joated said –
Tug McGraw’s line…and THAT worked so damn well.
Go get ‘em Tim!
(praise the Lord & pass for ANOTHER TD !!!)
I believe Tebow is part Olympian. He is the best bad quareterback of all time! How pissed does Elway look every time Tebow sucedes? GREAT.
More importantly…
TEXANS MAKE THE PLAYOFFS FOR FIRST TIME EVER!!!!!!!
Fenway – Maybe because they think – as I do – that the Broncos’ winning streak comes to a halt this week?
Sully – Great offense versus a great defense. We shall see.
Joated – And I do.
Roger – And the morons at ESPN would never try that if Tebow were a Muslim.
Wes S. – I was surprised at Elway, too, and he’s my favorite player. Give the guy a fair chance and see what happens. The players believe in him, why not ownership?
Captain – He gets ripped, while Vick gets celebrated. Disgusting.
Bob – B-Dawk has been tremendous this year.
Rick – As am I.
Bob G. – I’d love to see him open the game wide open this week, because the Pats’ defense is lacking.
Dr. Evil – And with a third-string QB. Unreal. Great job by former Bronco Gary Kubiak.
Tebow time yet again! Admittedly a fair weather fan, but living in the Denver area, it’s a hoot to listen to all this stuff on the radio, watch it on TV, and read it in the paper or on the internet. Yesterday, my diehard Bronco fan son was sitting on the couch totally dejected and when the hit the tie breaking FG for 59 yds, he was in tears. His mom and I had a hard time not laughing out loud, but it was sure fun to watch. I’ve been enjoying watching all the other haters changing their tune and now many other players are starting to do their own preaching. Tebow is just good clean fun and it’s hard to imagine he doesn’t have a swelled head, but he’s genuine. I’m sure he’ll lose at some point, and all the haters will pounce, but he’ll take that in stride too.
All you guys in Philly can enjoy Mike Vick, the dog lover. I’ll take Tebow time! (Then again, I already know most people here think Mike Vick is a thug/jerk/loser, which is pretty accurate.)
Generally, I don’t care but he’s upsetting all the right people so I wish him good luck and I hope he improves through his rookie years with the experience.
The bum did the same fourth quarter comeback against my Chargers.
If he would turn off the helmet speakers at the start, and call his own plays he wouldn’t need the fourth quarter.
I’ll say this much, if the Steelers don’t make it through playoffs (and with Rapistberger’s sprain who knows) I may back Denver.
Anyone but Baltimore. Seriously.
TonyF – What’s worse is that since the Eagles beat the Dolphins this week, they guaranteed Andy Reid’s return next year. Way to go, morons!
Andy – As do I.
Skip – But where would the excitement be in that?
Vicki – Agreed. I despise Ray Lewis.
