Overnight Thread

By Wyatt Earp | May 19, 2011

Most of you know that I am extremely anti-litigious. I think the amount of b.s. lawsuits filed out there greatly outnumber the legitimate ones. That being said, I think the teachers in this story have every right to file a lawsuit against the city.

And I hope they win big.

Four white Philadelphia teachers filed federal race-bias lawsuits that accuse a black principal of creating a hostile work environment and suggesting they were unfit to teach black children. Their lawsuits say that a former principal had them read an article that said “white teachers do not have the ability to teach African-American students.”

The teachers also allege that the principal, Charles Ray III, and others undermined their work by reprimanding them, randomly changing their room assignments and letting black teachers ignore rules that their white counterparts had to follow. Ray also retaliated when they filed union grievances, they said.

Charles Ray III needs to be fired at once. The truly sad part is that I had to double-check to make sure this was happening inside a Philly school, because this sort of thing happens in the city’s police and fire departments every single day.

. . .

One in three university students in the German capital would consider sex work as a means to finance their education, a study from the Berlin Studies Center said on Wednesday. The study found some 4 percent of the 3,200 Berlin students surveyed said they had already done some form of sex work, which includes prostitution, erotic dancing and Internet shows.

On an unrelated note, I’m thinking of going to graduate school in Germany.

Tonight’s post is sponsored by the Scion TC.

Proof – You forgot your goose-step.

Orchid – Sorry, it’s been a busy day. I need another minor surgery on my face – thankfully, no cancer-related – the lawn needed mowing, and the comments were down all day. Took a while to get them back online.

And I think they have a terrific case. Hope they win.

    Wyatt:
About time we started calling out this “other” form of racism that goes unnoticed and underreported.

There are some black kids out there that couldn’t be taught with a Barnum & Bailey LION-TAMER!
(and crime stats both local and national bear that much out)
Kids (and their parents) like that are the result of generational “dependency” on gov’t freebies…at YOUR expense.
Hope the teachers win big also!

    Good Luck to them.

    Stay safe.

Bob G. – And people wonder why Philly’s public schools are failing.
