Flabbergasted

By Wyatt Earp | January 16, 2011

Well, I knew this was gonna happen. After last week’s ultra-flush – I lost five pounds – I backed up the bubble butt bus a tad. I weighed in at 211-212 today – damned non-digital scale – so I won’t give myself the benefit of the doubt and call it 212. Up two pounds from last week.

The only explanation? Julia’s seizure. The stress of the event made me weak, and I ate a lot of “comfort food” on Thursday and Friday. Yesterday’s return to sanity didn’t offset that. Now, stress is not a legitimate excuse, but it’s the only one I have. Hopefully, next week will be better.

I started at 215, so I’m still down three pounds in two weeks. Not bad, and with a hockey game tonight, there’s a great opportunity for flaming calories.

I know people say that “we” shouldn’t eat out of stress, but when we are stressed, do we really stop to think that maybe we shouldn’t? I know I don’t. I did catch myself the last couple of days, eating certain things, because of some anxiety I’m experiencing. Of course, that was AFTER I ate the hoagie, chips, and Tatstykake coconut junior. Oh, and a cherry Coke.

It happens. Better habits develop and will become instinct over time. I’ve noticed it in myself and you will, too soon enough.

Good luck this next week. :)

I’m putting myself on hold until I get back home. (10 days.) Being away from my family is hard, but what I am here for (a friend and her going to be in the uterus forever baby) is important. It’s doesn’t hurt that she has an endless supply of chocolate. (It doesn’t help either.)

RT – I knew what I was doing, and I felt guilty about it – at the time and afterward. All I can do is recognize the stumble and try to not let it happen again.

Kim – Chocolate is evil – especially when cravings are involved.

Wyatt, Here is a good, healthy, semi-low cal muchie that I love: grilled sticky rice patties. They fill you up, zero sodium, and taste great.

Make sticky rice (ask a Thai lady for help, if necessary). Form into patties like a burger. Grill over charcoal, also like a burger. While grilling, paint the “burgers” with a little melted butter (if you must, some margerine), but ever so lightly.

You can munch these like potato chips. Not only do they taste good, but they fill you up (drink water with them, not beer, although it is tempting, and no soda). You should find the scales easier to look at in a week or two.

Let the calories burn off in anticipation of Justified, season 2, premiering Feb. 9th. Do not I repeat do not stock up on buttered popcorn or other munchies in preperation.

Howdy Wyatt! Hey, listen stress CAN cause you to do things you know you shouldn’t. And y’all ought not to look at this as a sprint, but as a long distance race. I have faith in you Wyatt, you’ll lose those pounds, just don’t be so harsh on yourself!

Robert B. – Definitely trying that, since I love rice. Thanks!

Jon – I’ve been seeing the promos for it. Archer starts on the 27th. Can’t wait.

Real – I know, but I hate taking steps backwards. This week will be better.

You might experiment with high protein intake. I mix a tall glass of Muscle Milk and Ensure with water and it kills any hint of hunger for hours afterwords. I figure the drink comes in at about 550 calories. I can have my typical huge batch-o-eggs for breakfast and two of these shakes and make it through the day w/o hunger. I can only do this for three days and then I have to get me some carbs. “Pig out on bread and pasta day” is a very good day!

    An idea, FWIW. Good luck!

Wyatt: Forgive yourself about gaining weight. When anything and I mean anything involves your kid, everything else goes out the window; that includes hockey games, poker, munching on pickled eggs and yes diet.

Last summer, our neighbor’s daughter passed out on the sidewalk in front of their house. Her father was on a cell phone call to his work talking about a possible big client coming in. When he saw his daughter on the sidewalk, he threw his cellphone into our bushes and then went over to our other neighbor who is an RN and she gave CPR to the girl and saved her life.

Again, nothing is of bigger importance then the health and well being of your family, especially your kids. That is just the way God wired us.

Mark – I can top it off with a shot of Geritol! Thanks, I’ll try that, too.

Ferrell – I know, that’s why I wasn’t devastated at the results. She is much more important than my current poundage.

Wyatt, I’m in a three way bet on losing weight by March, we’ve each put up $100 if we don’t lose the 15 lbs we’ve talked about, AND the one that loses the least has to buy for the other two on the next road trip… THAT is my motivation… them sumbitches are EXPENSIVE to feed :-)

Hang in there, and keep working on it.

Old NFO – That’s how I won the blogger weight loss bet in 2008. I didn’t want to lose $20, and I am ultra-competitive. Good luck! The next Philly blog meet will be at SaladWorks. :)

Wyatt, Instead of the butter on the rice, try a little lemon juice and cayenne pepper. Remember to drink water, not soda. Not even diet (yecch!) soda. The water flushes your system and does not dehydrate you.

The rice patty should be moist to begin with, and grilled over hot charcoal. Grill it until the outside starts getting light brown, then paint it with buter or lemon juice & pepper. You can grill several & save them for later. Just reheat in a microwave a few seconds when you get the munchies.

Throw the scale away and just start eating under a certain amount of calories (for me it’s around 2000 a day) and set aside time to exercise each day. I threw my scales out a long time ago because I would be paranoid and weight myself and then be very hard on myself if I gained any weight, which made me eat more. SO, after throwing away the scales and doing the above I’ve lost two dress sizes, which is/feels awesome.
