The Walking Dead Walk To Another Season

By Wyatt Earp | November 9, 2010

Oh. Frakkin’. Yeah!

AMC announced that “The Walking Dead” will be coming back for another season. I’m not sure why they made the decision. Maybe it’s because it is quickly becoming the best show on television. Maybe it’s because the ratings are absolutely kickass. Or maybe because the episodes scare the hell out of me. Either way, .

“The Walking Dead” is coming back for a 13-episode second season. The zombie drama, starring by Andrew Lincoln as the leader of a group of human survivors, has broken ratings records, with the show reaching more viewers in the coveted adults 18-49 demo than any other cable TV show.

Its series premiere on Halloween drew 5.3 million total viewers and Sunday’s episode took in 4.7 million – that’s an incredibly high retention of a record rating and surely made this pickup an easy decision for AMC.

As for Sunday’s episode? You know a show is too damned suspenseful when you hear yourself saying, “Come on. Run! COME ON!!! I won’t give away any spoilers, but two scenes stuck out for me. First, the axe scene was gore-tastic, and I liked the way Rick stopped to tell everyone about the body before he started swinging. Second, the chase scenes were first rate, and when the rain started, I freaked out.

Overall, another winner. I can’t wait until next week!

(On a related note, DragonLady put me on her Zombie Killing Dream Team!)

Right there with ya bro. Just watched episode two last night, and have the Media Center set to record every episode. Good stuff.

So is this really a good enough new show to help fill the time gap before we find out where Boyd took Raylan’s car?

I’ve read the comics. The show is staying true to the comics. The comics are currently numbered in the high seventies I think. The storylines just keep getting better the farther it goes, too.

AMC is actually working closely with the comic’s creator, which is a really smart move for them. If they keep it up, they have pre-written material for a good six or more seasons, with new stuff coming out all the time.

They’ve got you hooked with the Zombie stuff and the gore and horror right now… wait until the humans they face are scarier than the Zs.

Woody – It’s one of my favorite shows now. It’s sweet.

Jon – Absolutely. And it won’t interfere with Justified because they’re on separate nights.

PhillipC – I really like the Merle character. You need a bad guy amongst the living.

John D – For me, everything about it is terrific. The FX, the plot, the suspense.

Thomas F – I’m willing to cut the show some slack, especially when they make it up to me with head shots.

Despite a few irritations, I LOVE this series! Glad it’s coming back for another season. NOW, I hope they bring Dexter back for another season.

I actually dreamed about episode 2 Sunday night.

Not quite a nightmare, but I couldn’t close my eyes for a little while because I kept seeing a particular one of the zombies faces.
    It was unsettling.

    Excellent show.

Hmmmm, what would happen if it California got attacked right now? We’d lose the City Of Angeles, Oaktown, the City by the Bay, and whatever the lame nicknames for Sacremento, San Diego, and San Jose are. And all those poor celebrities…hippies…and environmentalists. Could we afford such a loss? (scratches head and places hand on chin, “Dust in the Wind” plays in the background)

    Ok…who’s up for Chinese Food?

John D – That’s because they watch Zombie This Old House.

    DL474 – Last season’s finale was awesome!

Dr. Evil – Please don’t tell anyone we’re related. Comments like that are embarrassing.

Veeshir – Was it the old guy or the woman who kept staring at Rick and Glen when they were walking? They both creeped me out.

Dr. Evil – Ooo, ooo, I am!

    DL474 – But I don’t have any BRAINSSSSS!

    Rick – Or union goons.

Another solid episode. Again, true to the comic, though it seems they inroduced a whole cadre of new characters (it was only Glen who saved Rick in the city in the comic, irrc), but the “he was an organ donor” line was a gem.

    Good stuff.

Centaur – Agreed. Glen is great, and seeing him tool around in the car at the end was a riot.
