November 17, 1777 – Articles Of Confederation Submitted To States

The Articles had been signed by Congress two days earlier, after 16 months of debate. Bickering over land claims between Virginia and Maryland delayed final ratification for almost four more years. Maryland became the last state to approve the Articles on March 1, 1781, affirming them as the outline of the official government of the United States. The nation was guided by the document until the implementation of the current U.S. Constitution in 1789.

Less than five years after the ratification of the Articles of Confederation, enough leading Americans decided that the system was inadequate to the task of governance that they peacefully overthrew their second government in just over 20 years. The difference between a collection of sovereign states forming a confederation and a federal government created by a sovereign people lay at the heart of the debate as the new American people decided what form their government would take.

Brilliant men doing brilliant things. The Articles of Confederation – like the Constitution – are works of legislative art. And today we have politicians who think they are more intelligent than the Founders. Unreal.

Gotta love James Madison, FATHER OF THE CONSTITUTION! Yet, he most well known for as the capital of Wisconsin sharing his name.

Dispicible. Ya know, I’ll take any old school, unknown politicican over any of today’s corporate stooges. We need men like ‘Ol’ Hickory’ Andrew Jackson. Cuba would no longer be a problem. Let’s bring back James K. Polk. That little border problem with Mexico will be over quick, and Texas would double in size at the same time. And who could forget, for comedic purposes, William Howard Taft! Fat people are funny. Plain and simple.

Dr. Evil – Jackson was the man. Guy tries to shoot him twice and he beats him down with his walking stick. That’s hard core, man.
