Felon Fires On Philly Police, Loses
By Wyatt Earp | April 2, 2010
A wanted felon fired at 39th District police officers this afternoon when they tried to apprehend him. The officers returned fire, killing said felon.
A man wanted on federal weapons charges was killed today in a shootout in a Germantown playground with plainclothes police officers who recognized him and tried take him into custody, authorities said.
None of the officers was injured.
Best point in the article. None of the officers were injured. In the case of full disclosure, this happened in my division. I know the officers and the detectives who were on the scene.
Neighborhood residents said they heard numerous shots – some put the number at 30 – during gun battle in the playground on Wayne Avenue and Logan Street.
A relative who would not give his name identified the dead man as Vinnie Parsons, 26.
Mr. Parsons would still be alive today if he did not fire upon the officers. Plain and simple.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said three plainclothes officers were on the 200 block of Keyser Street about 12:15 p.m. when they saw the gunman and recognized him as a subject wanted on federal gun charges.
When the officers identified themselves, the man ran toward the playground, Small said. The officer chased after him, yelling “everybody get out, everybody get out,” to a woman with three children in the playground, Small said.
As the woman and children fled the man pulled a handgun from his waistband and and shot at the officers, the chief said. The officers returned fire, hitting the gunman multiple times in the legs and body.
Notice the dichotomy here. The officers yelled for the woman to get herself and her children out of the area. Mr. Parsons decided to open fire, caring little if he hit officers, bystanders, or the children. That’s the difference between Philadelphia police officers and the thugs of this town, people. Don’t forget that.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police recovered a pistol and two packs of crack cocaine from the gunman.
Oh, don’t worry. I am sure some of the more unsavory people in this town will claim Mr. Parsons was just on his was to church when the officers planted the gun and the drugs – which turned out to be two kilo’s worth – on him.
Oh, and here’s Parsons’ record:
According to court records, Parsons faced his first adult charges in 1999, when he was 15, on aggravated assault, weapons offenses, and other crimes. But all charges were withdrawn.
Two years later, he was charged with robbery and gun violations, and in 2003 he faced a slew of drug charges. He pleaded guilty to robbery, receiving a 21/2-to-5-year sentence, and to one of the drug charges, receiving a 11/2-to-3-year sentence.
In 2007, Parsons was charged with three gun offenses, resisting arrest, and other violations. As a convicted felon, he would have been barred from owning and carrying a firearm. He absconded from house arrest in September 2008, weeks before his trial, according to court records.
Yep, pillar of the community.

It was his Good Friday crack.
Glad the officers, dectectives, and the bystanders were not harmed.
Philly news said:
“The Police Internal Affairs unit and homicide squad are investigating the shooting.
The officers will be placed in modified assignment during the investigation.”
I understand IA has to investigate, but why are the officers placed in “modified assignment”? Is this a routine procedure when they take out scum?
Now he is rehabilitated. Come tomorrow, he will be 24 hours crime and narcotics free… but still eligible to vote in places like Chicago.
bagged n tagged, good job!
I just love a happy ending!
Well done.
If there has to be shooting , then the bad guy should always be the one to expire.
Hope the IA investigation is short and these fine officers and detectives sleep well, knowing they did a good job.
Justified!!!!
Thanks for saving us the cost of a trial!!
God Bless the Philly PD!!! (As long as they leave me alone!)
RT – I can’t wait until I post that picture all over their files, desks, etc. Captions included, of course.
Mrs. Crankipants – They’ll be on desk duty until the investigation is completed. Standard procedure. The paper got this one right for a change, so the officers should be back to full duty in a week or two.
Jason – I guarantee he’ll vote Democrat.
Smite – And no cries of racism, as the officers were African-American.
J. Biros – Just good to see that the kids weren’t hurt, either.
Danny – As long as you don’t fire first, you should be golden.
Good riddance, PPD put a little chlorine in the gene pool!
Old NFO – His mother has already hired a lawyer and stated her baby never fired. Never mind the witnesses, the spent casings, and the gun, he’s innocent!
wyatt – *sighs/rolls eyes* isn’t that always the case, from the naive-ignant mother.
“my baby was innocent, such a sweetheart, never in trouble a day of his life…”
it’s unfortunate, and I pity her.
I just love a story with a happy ending!!
my thoughts exactly.
And another bites the dust.
ABSOLUTELY! Great ending… I call it cleansing the gene pool. Forgive me for my “Insensitivity” but the sympathy I feel is for the mental well being of the officer that clipped the prick.
This should be the mandatory ending of ANY idiot that fires on a COP. No freakin long trial, parade’s of family members that caused the perp’s mental issues.. screw em feed em lead. It’s cheaper all the way around.
Can you tell this type of crap pisses me off?…I may need counseling.
Skeeter Skelton would be proud. His advice..”Keep firing till they fall out of your sights”.
Opens notebook…Now tell me robert, how does that make you feel:) LOL
LOL, Jon… Yeah I’m just sick of this type of stuff turning out the other way and our elected morons do nothing but put the idiots back on the street…And at the same time make it tougher for the GOOD guys to defend themselves….Yeah I got a little pent up anger I reckon.
Smite – Hopefully, it was just grief. Considering this toad’s record, she should know better.
TexasFred – Doesn’t get much happier.
DL474 – Not someone who will be missed.
Robert – I don’t think he’ll get as much sympathy as other toads who do the same thing since he fired with kids around.
Jon – Ooh, therapy. Me first, me first!
Robert – Parole is a wonderful thing. It keeps the voters on the streets.
It is said that the death of one human being diminishes us all, yet some also diminish our ammo supply.
Bon voyage, turd breath! Nice shooting, Philly PD and thanks!
Jon – To give you an idea on how the Philly Democrats ruined our economy, the department has not given out fresh ammo in over a year. Can’t afford it. When we train, we use factory second rounds. We keep our duty rounds for when we’re done, so the rounds in my Glock are almost two years old now. Nice, huh?
Crankipants – When you get to Hell, tell ‘em Itchy sent ya!
One less scumbag. Good job guys.
Rick – And the only one hurt was the toad.

According to The Philadelphia Daily News, unidentified witnesses claim they didn’t see a gun in Parsons hand, the police did not identify themselves, nor did they warn people to get out of the way. “Three people said they saw Parsons put his hands up just before the shots were fired.”
It amazes me that The Philadelphia Daily News will print whatever crap witnesses who refuse to identify themselves come up with.
I guess I need to contact that paper and tell them I saw the guy pointing an AK-47 at the officer and he was wearing a fk the police t shirt while smoking crack….balance the bullshi*
Mrs. Crankipants – Someone on the comments section there had a great point. Why is it that there are only witnesses when the police kill someone. The other 300 homicides each year? No one comes forward.
Look, it happened in my division and involved officers I know. I know the facts of the case, and if it looked bad for the officers, I would say so. Or I wouldn’t mention the story at all. This was a good shoot, no bystanders were hit, and one of Parsons’ rounds stuck a pole an officer was behind. It was head-level. Would have killed him.
What annoys me is that so many members of my department read that rag every day. Why keep them in business?
Robert – In this town? Wouldn’t matter. At least 50% of the residents here hate our guts and smile when one of us gets hurt. A thug like Parsons with a long record of violence? He’s a hero.
It seems like every time something like this happens, The Daily News goes out of their way to plant doubt about the actions of the PPD.
They’re not fooling anyone, if you noticed that 99% of the comments were for the police. It’s infuriating though.
Well again I say great job to the officer. A bullet is much cheaper than putting this asshat in jail for 15 years for killing a cop…You know with all the “Circumstances” of the murdering prick brought up by the defense…..We need an overhaul of the justice dept. We need laws that say you kill a cop, you go directly to death row, and get your 3 appeals…after that the cops family can decide what happens to you…Sheriff Joe would be a good lead on the reform efforts.
I firmly believe the gene pool has been slightly improved with the demise of one Mr. Parsons. May he rot in hell.
Just one man’s opinion of course.
