24 Gets The Silent Clock
By Wyatt Earp | March 27, 2010
It’s over, Jackie. It’s over! No more Jack Bauer, no more Chloe O’Brian, no more Jack Sack. (And thankfully, no more horse-faced characters like Audrey Raines.)
That’s right, after eight blood-soaked, bullet-ridden seasons, Fox has announced that 24 will be canceled. I would hate to be a FOX programming executive right now, since an angry Jack Bauer means the medical examiners will be working overtime:
Several TV-related blogs, from TV By the Numbers to Spoiler TV, have latched onto a Tweet from former producer Jon Cassar that said the cast and crew of 24 were told that there will be no season 9. Quoting from the Tweet – “News from the 24 set,the crew has been told that 24 has come to an end. There will b no season 9. Its been a great run, thanx all 4 watching”
A Twitter account appearing to be from Mary Lynn Raksjub would seem to confirm that. She said earlier today that they were shooting hours 23 and 24, and the last Tweet said they were told the bad news.
Truth be told, I am torn at the news. I am sad to see the show end, because it was such an innovative idea – especially with the real-time element. Jack Bauer was a terrific character, and he will be sorely missed. On the other hand, the show had become way too predictable of late. There is always a mole and always an irascible boss at CTU.
Similarly, after the first two seasons, the politically-correct writing started to ruin the show. Every foreign terrorist was financed by some evil big-business Republican type here in the states, Jack stopped torturing and killing villains, and idiots like Janeane Garofalo (Really???) were added to the cast. For us at Blogs4Bauer, posting was starting to become a chore.
Speaking of that, what will happen to B4B? We haven’t decided yet, but the safe money on us packing up our firepower, charging our cellphones, and heading off into the sunset.
As for me, I’ll remember the first two seasons (Mmm . . . Nina Myers) as being the best of the lot, and I’ll always think of Jack Bauer when I am interrogating some toad about the robbery he “didn’t do.”

Never really got into the show. If I had gotten a TiVo when it first started I might have.
Maybe for a final episode they can have Chuck Norris come in and remind Jack who the real boss is

It was the first TV show that had me on the edge of my seat and my heart beating faster.
Now for the final episode. Maybe we can have Jack eat a meal, go to the bathroom, or maybe even take a nap?
Or the shows producers can explain why his cell is always charged unless it’s a critical scene.
Or maybe the Jack, the president, Chloe, and Renee can have a foursome for 30 minutes, then he can eat, shower, shTit and shave and sleep the 2nd 30 minutes.

CP – Or they can have Obama lock Jack up for “war crimes.”
Danny – The cell phone one drives me insane. He’s on it all day and it never loses a charge? I want that phone.

“Fringe” takes the edge off losing “24″. The only TV shows I actually made time to watch.
Renee…good lookin’ slightly psychotic, unbalanced……YEAH!
My kinda woman……

I have to say I expected 24 to end after eight “days” because I knew Kiefer Sutherland wasn’t going to do a ninth season as Jack Bauer. Maybe he’ll come back for a movie version, but not for another “day”.
One thing I will miss will be saying to myself, whenever they show the time, “The time is now (so-and-so)”. It was a habit that started almost from the very beginning.

RAPH – Unbalanced. Yeah, that’s right up your alley.
Morgan – They said a movie is in the works, but if it’ll be the same drivel, I’ll pass.

Last week when they revealed that blondie was a mole, I threw my hands up in the air. (Well, actually I took a big sip of my cocktail.) They had a good run, but the writers are phoning it in. I’ll miss Jack, I adore Chloe, and I crack up when they say, “Copy that”- but I think its time to leave the party before it really jumps the shark. I was always hoping that Janeane Garofalo was a bad guy so she would get shot. I hated her almost as much as Kim Bauer.

Mrs. Crankipants – I feel the same way. Elisha Cuthbert is hot, but her character was the worst in 24 history. And I was also rooting for Garofalo to be garrotted.

What made no sense was that if Dana was on the “dark side”, would she really let some hayseed from her past intimidate her into assisting him and his pal in a robbery, and blowing her cover? Hell no! She would have made a few phone calls and had them taken care of. The same with the annoying guy she strangled and stuffed in the wall.
Still, I’ll miss my Monday nights.

Mrs. Crankipants – Move the fun to Tuesday nights and start watching “Justified” on FX. It’s awesome.

I have to check that out. Have you seen “Burn Notice”? It’s good stuff, I’m a huge Bruce Campbell fan.

Mrs. Crankipants – I have. Good stuff, and I’m a Campbell fan, too. Army of Darkness is one of the greatest films of all time.

He’s a great character, as is Fiona- she’s beautiful, but she’s nuts! And it’s fun to see Sharon Gless on TV again.

Mrs. Crankipants – Heh, heh, you said “beautiful nuts.”
Jon – Exactly.
Roger – B4B Liveblogging was pretty damned fun. At least for me.
