Say Hello To My Little Scar!
By Wyatt Earp | December 2, 2009
Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is the doctor took out my stitches today, and I took a very long shower, washing my hair a few times. Even with my short hairstyle, it felt scummy after a week without a good shampoo. I’m clean as a whistle now.
Yeah, that’s where the good news ends.
When the doctor examined my wound, he said it was healing rather nicely and I kept it nice and clean. The only thing I have to do now is apply a coat of Vaseline to it once a day.
(Insert your snarky comments here.)
I asked the doctor about playing hockey, and he gave me an “Are you out of your mind?” look. He said because my incision was so high on my forehead, a helmet would increase the chance of the wound opening up during game play. It would also increase my chances of getting the wound infected. Swell.
Ignoring my somber visage, he made his pronouncement. No hockey for two weeks. That means I cannot play until our December 20th game. For those of you who do not follow my life religiously, that means I will have been off the ice for four weeks. Four. Weeks.
Look, I’m not stupid. Well, not all the time. I realize that when the doctor says two weeks, he means two weeks. I don’t like it, but I’ll abide by it. It just burns me that this will be the third year in a row that I haven’t played a full season due to injury. In 2007, it was my knee. In 2008, it was the appendectomy. Now this. It’s just not fair.

Wyatt: You could always play without a helmet!
That way, your “little friend” could get new little friends!

Who needs hockey when you’ve got a jar of Vaseline?

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Not Vaseline!!
Seriously, this is not good. Vaseline traps moisture and you risk skin breakdown. Use any type of skin lotion you want. Massage the area 1-2 times a day to stimulate blood flow into the granulation tissue (the lump you feel under the skin) every day for the next six weeks, or until you don’t feel it any more.
And starting today, put sunscreen on the scar every day before you go out. This will prevent permanent skin discoloration due to sun exposure. You will need to do this every day for a year.
This is unsolicited advise from a Registerd Nurse. Don’t blame me if yer azz falls off.
Glad to hear the good news.

Geez, no hockey and you’re already all lubed up. What a waste!

A well greased head is always a good thing, right?
Glad you’re no longer in stitches, Wyatt.

Geez, hockey guys aren’t supposed to be so whinny.
Look, over bandage your head scar and lube up with KY Jelly instead of Vaseline. That way anything less than a direct shot will just slide on by.

I am thankful that you are healing well. Listen to your doctor. The last thing you want is an infection.
Look on the bright side. When you do get back on the ice, you will be nicely rested.

I thought we were going to get to see the scar. Dang.
I want to see the looks you get when all you take through the checkout line is Vaseline. Heh.

Proof – The doc said that’s the only I’m playing. Can’t go without in our league.
Old NFO – Shut. UP!!! You’ll jinx me!
Mrs. Crankipants – Okay, that was pretty funny.
1oldleg – I know I’m ugly, but that’s my face you see, not my azz.
MeToo – Okay, I am now soliciting offers from my female audience. I’m all lubed up, girls! (Hey, if Tiger can do it . . . )
Snigs – Thanks. Damned things itched like a bear.
Ride Fast – That’s not a bad idea.
Kim – And probably out of skating shape. Dang.
RT – It’s posted. Notice the lubed area. Heh. Happy?

Three years, eh? Think Someone is trying to tell you something?
Really glad you’re healing up nicely. Listen to your doctor and don’t be such a baby! There’s next year, y’know, even if you are gonna be OLDER.

I used aloe vera lotion on my incisions on my belly for a month after the kidney came out. You know, the clear green stuff. It seemed to do OK. But it was suspenders for awhile to hold the pants up instead of a belt.
Snigs got ya with that one, pal!

Actually, that’s one of the better looking Lobotomy scars. Now you’re qualified for promotion.
Seriously, if only for a moment, that looks like good news,
