Police Misconduct Czar In Hot Water
By Wyatt Earp | November 9, 2009

Wow, another hypocritical city employee. Color me surprised.
As chief investigator of the Police Advisory Commission, Wellington Stubbs II sleuths to uncover police misconduct. But last week, Stubbs found himself at the center of his own misconduct scandal, when City Controller Alan Butkovitz accused him of violating city residency requirements by living in New Jersey and failing to fully disclose outside income as the city requires.
Butkovitz accused Stubbs of maintaining his primary residence in South Jersey, noting that investigators saw him at least 14 times at a Camden County home owned by his wife. Stubbs, a city employee since 2002, says he lives in Southwest Philadelphia.
The controller also reported that Stubbs’ vehicle has New Jersey tags and insurance, that he receives mail in New Jersey and that he certified New Jersey as his primary residence on mortgage-refinancing paperwork. (H/T – Philly.com)
Okay, I have two thoughts here. First, this is the funniest story I have read all week. Anytime some gink from the Police Advisory Commission shoots himself in the foot, it’s party time ’round these parts. The PAC has always had an agenda, and it rarely involves anything resembling the truth.
Second, the wontons on this guy are simply amazing. The man sits and passes judgment on alleged cases of police misconduct while he is violating the city’s residency requirement! This, my friends, is the problem with Philadelphia politics. I guess I should be grateful that Mr. Butkovitz initiated the investigation, but that will be small comfort when Stubbs – if found guilty – is allowed to simply resign.

Wow, and I thought that “You live in New Jersey!” was only a pejorative in NY. It’s nice to know them’s fighting words in PA too. And you’re probably right about this dork skating with just a resignation. Different rules for the bigwigs than for us reg’lar folk. I guess living with the name Wellington Stubbs II will have to be punishment enough.

The shame of it is that he probably beat someone who met the legal requirements out for the job.

Do as I say, not as I do…
Everyone in higher authority is a P.O.S., these days.

How could anybody named Wellington Stubbs II have anything to do with the police department? Unless he was in charge of the stock market division.

Isn’t living in New Jersey punishment enough?

John D – You would think someone with a silver spoon-sounding name would have more sense.
BIG – Well, he was most likely an affirmative action hire. Most upper-echelon appointees in Philly are.
Teetop – They are in Philadelphia, I can assure you that.
AJ – Johnson was living in bear, Delaware for his entire term. People complained, but guess what happened? Zip.
Becky – It has its great spots, but those are getting fewer every day. Northeast and South are your best bets.
Old NFO – If it were me, I’d be fired already.
Jon – Probably make it again, too.
Ingineer66 – He was condemning police officers from on high. It probably suited him.
Mrs. Crankipants – One would think.

I never did understand why the residency requirements still existed. I know its probably for tax reasons and the city wanting their money back but why hasnt enough people complained to get rid of it?
Im of course talking about something here I know almost nothing about.
