This Week On Samurai Felon
By Wyatt Earp | October 19, 2009

This story is a perfect example of why you need to kick your adult children out of the damned basement! It is also why you may want to steer them way clear of Dungeons & Dragons.
Police in Upper Darby say the officer responded to a call about a man who is in his mother’s house, hiding in his room with a crossbow and Samurai sword.
When police arrived, they are directed by the mother to the room where the man was hiding. The lead officer protected himself with a shield and entered the room, police said, when the suspect fired the cross bow at the officers and then attacked the officer with the sword.
Officers used a taser on the man and subdued him. (H/T – MyFoxPhilly)
Someone comes at you with a crossbow and a Samurai sword, you shoot him! Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad no one was seriously injured, but this was a free pass to the officer if he wanted to take it.

Sigh … another example of bringing a knife to a gun-fight. Or in this case, a 3rd level Rogue to a Lich King’s tomb.

LMFAO to response #1:)

I was at the Eagles Raiders game yesterday. I am sure many Eagles fans were hoping that McNabb would get hurt during one of those 6 sacks. Getting beat by the Raiders these days is pretty embarrassing.

If I was his superior, I would be tempted to tear some bloody strips off his arse.
“I don’t want to have vto make that phonecall!”

That cop is a really nice guy. I’d have shot the guy and never thought twice about it. You come at me with a crossbow and sword, I’m going to shoot center mass until you stop.
I’m glad the cop didn’t get hurt. I could give a damn about an idiot that lives in his mom’s basement with a crossbow and sword apparently presenting enough of a threat that mom calls the cops.

Could the officer have given a pass on the shoot? Sure, and he could have spent the next 5 years gwtting past the baggage. On the other hand, he can now spend the next 5 years regaling his buddies with an instant war story with a funny ending!
Good Job!

The crossbow was probably the greater danger. We don’t even know if the fella was capable of lifting the sword up with both hands.

Why does the world keep going further into insanity?

I know this officer, He is a good cop and did a great job on a difficult situation. Glad he is OK. Sorry the dirt bag will be doing this again before long.Sad that scum take up our air.G

Glad he made it out ok.
He would (at the very least) have been sent back to our officer survival school for that little stunt…..if not given time off on the bricks for NOT shooting the guy.
Why?….because it is very difficult to hold the taser, the shield, and a firearm all at the same time, which means that he most likely DID NOT have his firearm out at the time.
This was a lethal force response, plain and simple. Also, for some of the other posters, there isnt any ’5 years of baggage’ behind a super clean OIS like that out here in LA. Been there, done that…..got the t-shirt, and would do it again in a heartbeat if required to defend my life, or the life of one of my fellow Deputies.
I’ll get off my soapbox now….

I’ve watched lotsa Hollywood movies and don’t understand why the copper didn’t simply shoot the weapons out the bad guy’s hands with some dramatic music in the background.
The truly sad part is that my tax dollars will now support this scum for a short stint and then he’ll back out on the streets.
Better for the family to pony up for funeral expenses and be done with him.
When my toaster catches fire, I call it defective and throw it away.
Same concept applies to humans.
But at least I have nothing to worry about from scum like this. I have a sign posted on my front and back doors which state that cross bows and swords aren’t allowed on my property.

mdmhvonpa – Funniest comment of the day!
Ingineer66 – It’s like Hitler in the later stages of WWII. Why wish for McNabb to get hurt when he is leading to the Eagles downfall. Oh, by the way, the Broncos are now 6-0. Heh.
Echosix – And how to explain this to the media?
Joe – The officer definitely had a ton of restraint.
1oldleg – True enough.
Leo – I’m figuring there wasn’t a Bowflex in that basement.
USAdmiral – Must be the global warming boiling their brains.
George – If you see him, thank him for giving the rest of us a better name.
Dep. Polarbear – I haven’t had the opportunity, thank God, but I’d like to think I could pull the trigger if I had to.
Kaveman – Can you get me some of those signs? I want to be safe, too!

Pretty cool Wyatt about those Broncos. I was cheering for them last night since the Raiders have no hope of making the playoffs and everyone thought the Broncos would be horrible. I like to see the “experts” get it wrong.
