The Denver Broncos Are Still Perfect

With Kyle Orton at the helm. Are you kidding me?? Okay, their terrific defense is helping matters, too.

DENVER – Champ Bailey figured the last play was his to make. Why not? Tony Romo had been testing him all afternoon, even though he kept acing every exam.

“I welcome it. Please do. That’s the only way I get a chance to make plays,” said Bailey, who had eight tackles, broke up four passes and made one key interception in Denver’s 17-10 win over Dallas on Sunday.

His biggest play came with a second left when he knocked away the potential tying touchdown pass from Romo to Sam Hurd on fourth-and-goal from the 2.

With the blitz coming, Romo quickly fired toward Hurd cutting across the middle. Bailey reached around and swatted the pass away with his left hand at the last second, giving the Broncos their first 4-0 start since 2003. (LINK)

Okay, I can take this for what it’s worth because I am a Denver Broncos fan, and not a Denver Broncos Kool-Aid drinker. I do not expect this team to win the AFC West, nor do I expect them to even make the playoffs. Thus far, they are playing above their heads.

But beating the Dallas Cowboys? Yeah, that makes me smile!

If not the Broncos then who will win the AFC West. The Raiders are a joke. KC is horrible and the Chargers are in disarray. Now they will go 1 and done in the playoffs against any other division in the NFL, but they are looking the strongest at the moment. And who would have guessed that?

Ingineer66 – Not me. They won’t beat the Pats on Sunday, but you’re right: the AFC is a mess.

I’m not a Bronco’s fan, but I agree that they look like the best in the west right now. Oakland and KC are through for the year. That leaves San Diego to chase down the Broncos. Will they? It’s possible, but they’re already two games bahind. If Denver beats SD onthe 19th there’s no way the Chargers end up winning the AFC West.

Joated – That’s why that first game is so important.

B.A. – Yeah, frak Michael Vick.

Sully – Sorry. To be fair, I didn’t pick them in my office pool, either. I thought Dallas would stomp them.

Thanks to Tony Homo, the Broncos won…

    In full disclosure, I’m a cowgirls fan. :o (

As a long time Bronco’s fan, I can echo some sentiments here Wyatt – but as a conversation with a couple buddies over a beer or two the other night pointed out – Yah, the Bronco’s shouldn’t probably be 4-0, but they are. And some teams manage to gel fast, and while they’re never the big play makers they find ways to win everytime they get on the field. And in the end, thats all that matters. I tend to agree that Denver isn’t going anywhere in the playoffs. But I’m going into every regular season game thinking they got more then a chance to win now. At the very least, a winning record this year is easily in sight – and who knows. Stranger things have happened in the playoffs.

In short though, its a hell of a lot better year to be a Bronco’s fan then it looked even 4 months ago.

Hey, folks forget Orton got a better winning percentage in both college and the pro’s than Cutler. In fact Cutler’s next winning season will be his first since high school. (though he did finish 8-8 once).

Teetop – Well, nobody’s perfect. Heh.

Jon – Exactly. I thought we were in for a 6-10 season. Thusfar, I am very pleasantly surprised.

CP – I hope he breaks a leg this year. That’s not too bitter, is it?

Of course, i mean I hope Cutler breaks a leg. Pampered baby.
