Map – Absolutely. While the death of Dale Earnhardt was a tragedy, at least some good came from it in the form of better safety.

This was a spectacular, but not all that serious of an accident. The real message has already been mentioned: NASCAR has become safety conscious. Between improvements to the tracks (safer barriers) and the cars (the seats and head restraint systems), the drivers now operate in an _almost_ indestructible cocoon. The wrecks are still spectacular, but the drivers walk away. This is an example of good engineering.
