Honk If You Love Justice!

So, I was surfing the Internets last night and found something that caught my eye. My favorite animated series – and possibly the best Superhero series of all time – The Tick is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. For those of you who are not familiar with the series:
1. Get off my blog.
2. Don’t come back.
3. Okay, come back. I’ll explain the allure of the show.
IMDB describes The Tick thusly: “An invulnerable, somewhat dim, superhero protects The City from all manner of evil-doers.” Not bad, but the show is so much better (and funnier) than that. Well, maybe I better show you with this clip from “The Tick Vs. Arthur’s Bank Account.” (Every episode is entitled “The Tick Vs. . . .”) Here, The Tick decides he needs a battle cry, and the greatest catch phrase in human history is born:
Simply brilliant. Of course, I’m biased, so don’t go by me. Trust your funny bone. It should be working overtime with this next clip, possibly one of the funniest in the entire series. Here, evil hand-puppet “Handy” tries to educate his fellow villains . . . with predictable results:
Okay, it’s not exactly highbrow, but it’s good enough for a dolt like me. I was glad to see some of the clips – and a few episodes – on YouTube, although I own every season on DVD. If you get the chance, try getting “The Tick Vs. Season One” from Netflix. You’ll thank me later.
(Oh, and steer far away from the live action series Fox put out a few years back. Not. Good.)

Dear God I loved that show!!! I can’t understand how badly FOX messed up how to promote it.
My other Fox pet peeve is “Get A Life,” with Chris Elliot.
Best animated show today is ,”The Venture Brothers.”
Easily the funniest thing I’ve seen in years.

I need to get the second season on DVD, I keep forgetting.
I’ll stick up for the live action show for at least one line.
The Tick is up there giving his “Justice is good” speech, an admiral’s aide is going to shut him up but the admiral says, “No, I like the cut of his gibberish”

Mrs. Crankipants – Lady, if you weren’t already married . . . I have the 12″ talking Tick. Yells “Spoon!’ and “Evil is afoot!”
Sully – Get a Life was fantastic.
Insol – Interviewer: “Can you blow up the Earth?”
The Tick: “Egad, I hope not! That’s where I keep all my stuff!”
Veeshir – Okay, that’s damned funny. I’ll grant you that one.

The show was great. And I hate to be one of these people, but check out the original comic series if you get a chance – hilarious stuff, though somewhat darker than the show.

I used to watch the Tick with the kids back about 12 or so years ago. Loved it.
