The Obama’s Expensive Lost Weekend

By Wyatt Earp | June 2, 2009

obamas1Wow, I spend one day at the race track and all Hell breaks loose. The Obamas take a pleasure junket to New York City – hopefully without a flyby over the Statue of Liberty – for dinner and a lavish Broadway musical. The transportation and security? Oh, we’ll just bill the American people for that.

Apparently, this was a big story to everyone except the MSM. Of course, since when did the MSM ever concern themselves with a ridiculous waste of taxpayers’ money?

In another odd twist left unexamined by the media, the White House on Monday said it simply would not release the cost of President Obama’s weekend jaunt to New York City, where the First Couple had dinner and caught a Broadway show.

It won’t release the cost. Imagine the uproar if the Bush administration did this.

Spokesman Robert Gibbs, keeping the White House press corps in stitches, as he always does, said the Obamas would have preferred using a commercial airline shuttle to New York and back, but the Secret Service would not allow such unprotected travel (ba da bing).

Gibbs is a liar, and a smug one at that. No one wants to fly commercial, especially if they have the option to fly in a private jet.

And that was that. No further probing; asked and answered; time to move on.

Is the author of this article really surprised that the White House Press Corps laid down like the beyotches they are?

There was, of course, an ironic element of the trip. In February, Obama scolded corporate executives (while also costing Las Vegas some $130 million) when he said: “You can’t get corporate jets. You can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas, or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers’ dime.”

But the Chief Executive (Oval) Officer had made a promise to his good wife that after the campaign, they’d take in a Broadway show, and darn it, he meant to keep that promise.

Obama kept the promise, irregardless of the cost. He does know that we are in a recession, right? The article details a rough estimate of the weekend’s cost, and comes to a figure of about $250,000!

One thing is known — The Obamas picked up the cost of dinner costs and their orchestra seat tickets, which cost $96.50 a piece. So if the whole thing cost $250,000, the Obamas offset that by at least a few hundred bucks. Phew. (H/TThe Washington Times)

Look, I don’t have a problem with the Obamas spending a night out on the town. Lord knows the pressure of the job is immense. That being said, he cannot scold corporate executives for their irresponsible spending, then turn around and do the same exact thing.

It’s hypocritical, and he should set a better example for the country.

A $250,000 date? That would pay off the mortgage, the vehicles, get the van fixed, pay off the medical bills, buy the proper fencing we need, and still have money left over to replace the drywall in te basement where there is black mold.

$250K, hell that didn’t even pay for the gas for the 747, the C-17, the three helos, much less the gas for the airliners in holding for up to an hour… Try $1M plus total cost and THAT MAY BE LOW…

Gotta keep those women happy. You never know when you might need some good support at home. Just in case no one has noticed, Barry has lied to us so many times it is no surprise.
Did ya wonder why the reorginization of GM was announced from the White House and not from Detroit of the Federal Court house? Yep, it is now Government Motors for sure. MUD

    Jon – Cleanup, aisle three!

Kim – Unfortunately, we’re paying for it, so you will have a larger mortgage payment soon.

Old NFO – Someone opined that on another site. It may be much, much more. Sad.

MUD – That’s because Obama – like everyone else – is afraid to go to Detroit.
