Reason #8,199 Why I Love NASCAR
By Wyatt Earp | April 27, 2009
Witness the closing lap of today’s Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway:
Was the crash kickass? Absolutely. But the reason why I love NASCAR so much is that Carl Edwards walked away from that wreck. They do their best to keep the drivers (and the fans) as safe as possible. Just don’t expect to see me in the front row at a race anymore.
Of course, Edwards is correct about one thing: As long as NASCAR lets these cars run with restrictor plates, crashes like these will continue.
Oh, this might also be a good time to mention the standings in our Fantasy NASCAR League. Here’s how they run after today’s event:
1. Variable Feedback – 2,469
2. Vick’s Vapo-Lock (Me) – 2,411
3. The Human Brown Eye (Randal) – 2,396
4. Swickster Engineering – 2,315
5. bR&E Motor Sports – 2,276
6. The Godfather – 2,261
7. Spdkills – 2,260
8. Snigs Movers and Shakers – 2,191
9. Race For Last Place (Sssteve) – 2,175
10. Passing on the Right (RT) – 2,151
11. Shake and Bake – 1,884
12. Leones de Yucatan Racing – 1,668
* Leones de Yucatan Racing and Shake and Bake came into the league after Week 2.

I loved the dirt track as a kid. After really flipping a car in 1961, I don’t much care for high speed tracks as much. Oh well. MUD

Thanks for the asterisk, so that I know how much I truly suck.

I might do better if I could remember consistently to make my picks.

Let’s have it Carl’s way. No more Talledega, no more Daytona. Or, take off the restrictor plates. Cars going 250 mph will go airborne a hellova lot faster than at 197. He did it to himself, glad he’s alive, but he’s biting the hand that feeds him.
Just sayin’

Dorkelina – Yeah, Erik screamed, “Dad get down here and see this!” I was busy with Kyle and missed the end of the race. And with Gordon out, I was bummed.
Doghouse – Then make sure you buckle up!
MUD – I once flipped my Big Wheel. Does that count?
RT – Well, start to suck less. Heh.
Snigs – I go by the Yahoo! e-mail reminders. Just remember to try and do it on Thursday night.
1oldleg – Fair enough. I like Daytona and Talladega, if for no other reason than anyone can win. It’s drafting heaven.

Thursday is my marathon day. 9 hours of work, 30 minutes break, 5 hours of school. At least my prof doesn’t mind me taking 15 minute naps during class.
