Roland Burris Thrown Out Of Senate
By Wyatt Earp | January 6, 2009
And Burris will cry “racism” in 4 . . 3 . . 2 . .
Oops, scratch that – he and his supporters are already claiming that the decision to remove him involved race.
Break out the popcorn, kids. The Democrats are imploding, the Senate has turned into a circus, and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi just stirred up a hornet’s nest.
Funniest. Thing. Evah!
WASHINGTON – Roland Burris failed in his bid to take President-elect Barack Obama’s Illinois Senate seat on Tuesday in a scripted piece of political theater staged just before the opening of the 111th Congress.
“My credentials were not in order, I will not be accepted, I will not be seated,” Burris, 71, told a mob of reporters who had followed him across the street for a news conference in a cold and steady rain outside the Capitol.
The only thing he didn’t say was “The Man is keeping me down!” That would have been awesome if he said that, by the way.
Democrats and Obama have said that the corruption charges against Blagojevich would strip credibility from anyone he appoints to the seat. Burris and many of his supporters have suggested that the real reason for the rejection involved race.
I don’t have a horse in this race, but Burris would be the only current African-American senator. Who knows if race was involved, but the fact that Burris is playing the race card just made things that more difficult for Pelosi. And that makes me giddy as a schoolgirl.
A mob of reporters awaited him outside the Senate’s North Door, where Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer and a throng of officers escorted him through security and up to [Secretary of the Senate Nancy] Erickson’s office on the third floor.
There, more reporters waited. Once again Burris went through a metal detector and into Erickson’s office, nestled between the elevators and the press gallery.
Twenty-one minutes later, Burris left; a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid confirmed that Burris had been rejected. (H/T – Yahoo!)
Normally, I would be angry that this distraction would keep the Senate from getting any work done, but in all seriousness, what work has Pelosi’s Congress done since she was appointed Speaker? Bupkis, that’s what. They raised the minimum wage and locked out the Senate during the domestic oil drilling debate.
Their first order of business of today (before these Burris shenanigans)? Barack Obama’s $1 trillion economic stimulus package.
Yeah, $1 trillion.

$1 Trillion from Obama. He’s just trying to keep up with the $5 Trillion in debt that Bush put us into.
Thanks GW. Enjoy your retirement, you putz.

Randal – Yeah, throw MORE money at the problem. That’ll work. Where is this money coming from? The same place it came from when Bush was spending like a drunken sailor: us.

Maybe we could get back the $1+ Trillion spent in Iraq?

Umm, Wyatt – Pelosi is head of the House. It’s Dingy Harry Reid who is head of the Senate.

Randal – Didn’t we get that back in all the oil we stole?
Ky person – My bad. I meant to say Pelosi’s Congress. I’ll fix it.

That Senate seat was stolen.

Don’t make the mistake that the Dems have always made. It’s the Reid/Pelosi Congress – rotten in BOTH houses but in this case – Reid is the one essentially who refused to seat him yesterday but is caving in today – as he should. Illinois officials should have moved more expeditiously to remove the ability to make the damned appointment from Blago – but once he went ahead and made a legal choice, the Attorney General should have certified it and Burris should have been seated.
Now on the Al Franken front where an election was BLATANTLY stolen in front of the entire world – there is a horse of a different color.
Al Franken is a troll filled with hate and few, if any, brains. He doesn’t belong anywhere much less in the U.S. Senate.
