‘Tis The Season
By Wyatt Earp | November 26, 2008
The season for starting Christmas early, that is. Yesterday, the missus went out and purchased a new artificial Christmas tree. The past few years, we were buying a real tree, but the kids have been allergic to them – not the desired effect we needed on Christmas morning.
Any hoo, when I came home from work, Erik (4) met me at the door and said, “Dad, look at the tree!” Sure enough, our new tree – pre-lighted, which is nice – was standing in the living room. My first thought was, “How long was I at work? What day is this?” The missus explained the decor thusly:
1. She is very, very pregnant. Although Baby Girl Earp is not due until January 3rd, Earp children are always early. If she comes at an inopportune time, I don’t want us to look like the neighborhood Grinches.
2. I can’t do a whole helluva lot now – In fairness, I didn’t do a whole lot when I was healthy – and that includes packing and unpacking Christmas decorations. Since the tree was already in the house, she figured we’d set it up to save time and effort.
3. The missus usually has all of the decorations up and functioning five minutes after Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, we’re “that family.” What harm could come if we decorated two days early?
So, the Christmas tree is up and in a few hours all of our decorations will be brought down from the attic. (Although since she is preggers and I can’t carry anything heavy for a while, getting into the attic will be com-e-dy!) When that chore is completed, I will be off to the mall to do my one day shop-a-palooza. I refuse to fight crowds – even with my cattle prod – after Black Friday (Racist!). It may take me ten hours, but I’m getting everything done today.
If you don’t hear from me by 8pm, call the Merchant Marines.
Request For Holiday Cheer: Today is Jim’s birthday. He is the sole reason SYLG is still up and running, but he’s hit hard times as of late. If you could help out a little click HERE. I would truly appreciate it.

There is NO WAY you can get everything done in one day, but if you can, I want your secret!

DL474 – Most of the stuff for the kids is “gotten,” but I got the missus taken care of, plus some kids’ things, and a few things for friends. Took about five hours, all told, but it was worth it to get it out of the way. Now, I just need a few stocking stuffers.

George – Thanks much! She’ll be coming early. The question is, when?

You all are heading into the holidays the right way!
You’re a shopping machine. I think I will hire out your services this spring when I need to go clothes shopping.

I’ve brought a gift for the granddaughter and the kids get money.
I hope your little girl is as good and sweet as my new granddaughter. She is laid back and hardly ever cries.

Hey where did the wife get the tree? I am looking for one that is no more than 7 feet high?

RT – No thanks. I don’t do women’s clothing stores. They creep me out. I keep thinking the salespeople believe I am buying clothes for myself!
Ky person – We’ll see. Kevin only cries when he’s hungry. But being 23 pounds at nine months, he’s ALWAYS hungry.
AJ – Lowe’s. Six and a half feet artificial.

I love your tree!
How long did it take to generate all the decorations?
best wishes to all
