November 22, 1963 – President John F. Kennedy Assassinated
It’s hard to believe it has been 45 years.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, is assassinated while traveling through Dallas, Texas, in an open-top convertible.
First lady Jacqueline Kennedy rarely accompanied her husband on political outings, but she was beside him, along with Texas Governor John Connally and his wife, for a 10-mile motorcade through the streets of downtown Dallas on November 22. Sitting in a Lincoln convertible, the Kennedys and Connallys waved at the large and enthusiastic crowds gathered along the parade route. As their vehicle passed the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:30 p.m., Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired three shots from the sixth floor, fatally wounding President Kennedy and seriously injuring Governor Connally. Kennedy was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital. He was 46. (H/T – History.com)
I have only one thing to add to this story. Oswald did it. He acted alone. There was no conspiracy. After 45 years, you Area 51 types really have to let it go.

I was 20yrs old, married two yrs,8mo old daughter, working for $165 for a six day wk. We never thought we would survive the Cuban crisis, living 45 miles from McDill AFB, the F4s were flying treetop level real frequent. When JFK was killed, there was a hell of a lot of worry, for the future of this Nation, even among us rednecks. Its a testament to the strength of this great Country that we have gone forward, although not always with the right results,I still think as a people we will make it through the current state of affairs. Thats my hope and prayer.
Diller – Mine, too. This country is too great to be overwhelmed by incidents like these.
Back…and to the left…
Ah, the conspiracy that I like best is that the government kept an almost brain dead President on life support in the Dallas Hospital for years until he died. Check the first amendment to the Constitution passed after his assassination. The reason I think it was only one shooter and it was Lee Harvey was that stupid little people are the ones that do stupid little crimes that hurt the best of people, always. The total amount of things I don’t know about the world grows daily.
C.S. Lewis and Aldous Huxley both died this day as well. Their deaths went un-noticed.
I have read Kennedy’s Profiles in Courage (actually ghostwritten for JFK) once. I’ve read Huxley’s Brave New World and Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia and his other books so often they are ragged.
Captain – Thank you, Jerry Seinfeld.
Earl – And if he was the lone gunman, give the guy some begrudging credit. It was damned impressive shooting. Not that I condone it.
Ky person – Didn’t read it, but I heard Narnia was fantastic.
Maybe two shots off by lee harvey but three at a moving target with a 6.5 carcano? Give me a break, OK. My Dad was an Army marksman. When the Warren Commission released it’s report, we did a test. Dad’s hunting rifle was a Husqvarna in 270 Winchester. This was one fine rifle. It was much better than that Italian Carcano pile of junk. It had a 4 power Weaver on it. We set up a target about 100 to 150 yards out. Dad fired three shots from the off-hand position and three from the kneeling position. He could not get three shots off, on target in the same amount of time that oswald supposedly got done at a moving target. And oswald had been a Marine and Marines do know how to shoot. But any rifle shooter worth a damn will debunk the single shooter crap in a second.
November 22nd is the day of my sister’s birthday, and nothing brings me more joy than to tease my sister with a reminder of the anniversary of JFK’s assassination on her birthday. Yeah, I know, I’m sick.
As to the conspiracies, the only plausible theory I’ve come across involves Oswald and the KGB. Aside from that, I couldn’t care less.
