Barack Obama: Visionary

By Wyatt Earp | November 14, 2008

Before you ask, no, this is not a snarky, sarcastic post. Surprised? You shouldn’t be; because if Barack Obama is planning what I think he is planning, the nation as a whole should embrace and celebrate his wisdom.

If he is planning what I think he is planning, it will mean the virtual end of Hillary Clinton. Republicans and conservatives should rejoice. Rejoice!

President-elect Barack Obama met with his former rival Sen. Hillary Clinton to see if she would be interested in a role in his administration, two sources told CNN Friday.

Obama also will meet with the man he defeated in the general election, Republican Sen. John McCain, on Monday, the Obama transition team announced Friday.

On Friday, Clinton responded to the latest rumors at a transit policy speech in Albany, New York.

“In the off chance that you’re not here for this important issue and are here for some other reason, let me just say that I’m not going to speculate or address anything about the president-elect’s incoming administration.”

Clinton went to the meeting Thursday with Obama because “she knew Obama wanted to talk about whether she would have a role in the administration,” one of the sources knowledgeable about the meeting said. (H/TCNN)

The scuttlebutt inside the Beltway says that Clinton will be offered Secretary of State. This, my friends, is why I am in such a good mood. Allow me to explain:

As a senator from New York, Hillary Clinton receives a lot of attention. She gets a lot of face time on television and article space in newspapers. She’s a virtual rock star. Without that position, she would have never been able to run for president.

Now, if she forfeits her Senate seat for a lesser role in the Obama administration – and make no mistake, going from New York senator to an administration position is a step down – she will lose all of her gravitas. SecState is an important position, but she most likely won’t go anywhere from there.

Imagine, her hopes of becoming president will be virtually eliminated. Her chances of becoming a Supreme Court justice will go bye-bye. She most likely will not be a senator or a member of Congress ever again. Her political career will cease to exist. We’ll finally be done with the Clintons!

And don’t think for one minute that Barack Obama doesn’t know that, by offering The Hill-dabeast a spot in his administration, he knows full well that he is eliminating his 2012 competition. In my opinion, this is a brilliant move on his part – and I salute him for it.

Another positive aspect to giving her the SecState position is that it would get her carpet-bagging backside the the hell out of New York. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.*

*Not that I think she’d do a good job, but let’s face it, whoever The O appoints is bound to be someone I disapprove of. At least with Hill, I get something good out of the deal.

    John D – To quote Peter Griffin: “It’s win-freakin’-win!”

  3. Easily Lost says:

I guess now we’ll see just how smart she is. I’m betting she knows about the downfalls of accepting any appointment from The One. The question is, will she be smart enough to turn it down or will the chance of a few more minutes of limelight overshadow the working part of her brain.
50/50 split on the outcome here

  4. AJ Lynch says:

Would Bill take her place in the Senate by any chance?

  5. Wyatt Earp says:

E.L. – I think she knows the consequences of taking a position with Obama. I just don’t know if she thinks she’s strong enough to try and unseat him in 2012.

    AJ – No chance. None.

  6. Old NFO says:

Cold day in hell… She knows that would kill her politically… Why take a cut in prestige, with the major league chances to screw up???

  7. deMontjoie says:

She won’t take it. She realizes, belatedly, that she missed a bullet by not being nominated this time around.

Between the economy, two wars, and (especially) the DEM’s iherent incompetence — Obama has inherited a shit-sandwich that is FAR beyond his ability to manage.

The Hildebeast will simply stay in the Senate for the next few years, pretending to be a loyal supporter of the Obama administration. Then, once that Obama has crashed and burned, she’ll step forward to offer-up her services in 2012.

At least that’s how I see it playing-out.

  8. RT says:

Bill’s ego wouldn’t get stroked enough by being in the Senate. Too many other attention whores.

When I heard this I was pretty happy, too. My first thought was, “That’s a really good way to keep her on a string and keep her from criticizing the admin.” I also thought that it was good, because, like you said, she’d be out of NY and no longer a senator.

  9. Ky Person says:

I dunno. The SecState is a prestigious position, but with what’s coming up (Russia, Iran, Venezuela) I don’t know if Herself would want to step into the maelstrom.

PS. Have you all noticed that Obama isn’t considering any Black folks for his cabinet? Where’s the diversity and why isn’t the MSM and the Congressional Black Caucus yelling at him? Yeah, yeah I know the answer, he’s a Dem and gets a pass, but still……

  10. RT says:

That was the first thing I noticed.

  11. Wyatt Earp says:

Olf NFO – True. She may just sit back and watch the carnage.

deMontjoie – And with the realization that she would have beaten McCain more soundly – at least according to exit polls – she may consider that 2012 run.

RT – Best news for NY, and best news for the country as a whole.

Ky person – I heard yesterday that most of the people on Obama’s short list are fossils from the Clinton administration. Not a lot of “change” there.
