Venezuela To Host Russian Naval Exercises

By Wyatt Earp | September 7, 2008

Will someone please remind me why anyone in this country does business with this frakkin’ jackass? If there was a God, Citgo would go out of business from lack of interest. This, my friends, is why we need to drill!

Unfortunately, it’s not that kind of country anymore.

CARACAS (Reuters) – Several Russian ships and 1,000 soldiers will take part in joint naval maneuvers with Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea later this year, exercises likely to increase diplomatic tensions with Washington, a pro-government newspaper reported on Saturday.

Quoting Venezuela’s naval intelligence director, Salbarore Cammarata, the newspaper Vea said four Russian boats would visit Venezuelan waters from November 10 to 14.

I think this quote from The Hunt for Red October is appropriate here: “It would be well for your government to consider that having your ships and ours, your aircraft and ours, in such proximity… is inherently dangerous. Wars have begun that way, Mr. Ambassador.”

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, an outspoken critic of Washington, has said in recent weeks that Russian ships and planes are welcome to visit the South American country.

“If the Russian long-distance planes that fly around the world need to land at some Venezuelan landing strip, they are welcome, we have no problems,” he said on his weekly television show last week. (H/TReuters)

No, but if Chavez keeps up with this nonsense, we are going to have a problem. He might do well to remember that.

When will you guys get it? Offshore drilling would do nothing except to increase profits for US oil companies. The amount of oil would do nothing to meet the ever increasing demand. NOTHING! We need to develop alternative sources of energy. Period.

And that quote from Red October? Very true. We should remember that when we send our ships to Georgia and the Ukraine.

And President Bush has challenged congress to come up with those plans since 2000. Do we need to replay his speeches?

Both sides are to blame, and they need to get their asses out of their heads.

No one is saying that drilling will supply all of our needs, either, or are you not listening past the catchphrase?

Would had said the same about France, Italy, Africa, etc.?

Yet your current candidate rejected the suggestion that people should keep their tires properly inflated as a way to increase gas mileage. Probably cause tires were made of wood when he was young. And Bush may have talked, but his policies were nothing but support oil. Which the Republican led congress agreed with.

Grimjack – He rejected it because it was a laughable comment. Keep your tires inflated. Gee, thanks, Obamessiah, no one thought of that. I have been driving around all day on flat tires! And again, what has Pelosi’s Congress done? They have the majority, so they should be able to push through almost any legislation.

As far as drilling is concerned, it would do nothing? So, we would drill, get oil, and throw it back into the ocean? Don’t be absurd. Of course it will not produce enough to meet our needs, but it would alleviate some of the demand. We drill in the gulf and AMWR until we can get the alternative energy plans off the ground.

Of course, that would mean relocating your precious endangered polar bears, so . . .

Oh, and when President Bush lifted the executive ban on offshore drilling, oil prices dropped. All we need to do is threaten to drill, and prices will go down. That’s what we did in the late 70’s, and it worked then. Kissinger unveiled “Project Independence” on February 11, 1974, and on February 12, OPEC discussed lifting the oil embargo. On March 17, the embargo was lifted. We do that now, see prices go down, and work on alternative oil solutions.

BTW, what is Obama’s solution? He’s against, drilling, and against nuclear, but his website mentions no specifics on how we will quickly become energy independent – well, except for taxing our way to independence.

RT – I love it when liberals give all the power of government to President Bush. As if he can immediately say, “We’re doing this!” and Congress will just go along with it. Congress as a whole has done nothing to promote viable sources of energy since the late 70’s. We can’t use nuclear because it is “dangerous” – never mind that France gets almost all of its energy through nuclear – and we can’t use wind power because Ted Kennedy doesn’t want windmills littering his landscape.

Bush (and any president for that matter) doesn’t have the power to pass a law. Presidents propose, congress disposes. So far this congress (and those of the past) seem to want to pass out the pork and take vacations.

Sigh. But I guess that’s Bush’s fault too.
I will be so happy when BDS is a thing of the past. I have my share of problems with some of the things Bush has done, but’s congress who has sat on their butts and mostly done nothing.

We don’t need prices to go down, then go back up depending on the market. Increasing drilling is a smokescreen. Lifting the executive ban did nothing as the states still control the actual rights. And if offshore drilling is the key, why haven’t the oil companies taken full advantage of the oil drilling rights they have today? Cheap oil is not in the best interests of oil companies, is it? We need to end our dependance on oil. Then if it is $10 a barrel of $500 a barrel, it won’t matter.

And if inflating your tires is a laughable idea, why did McCain flop on it and say that it was a good idea, recommended by the American Automobile Association. But of course you know that everyone on the road today has their cars maintained in tip-top shape, right?

Pelosi can push through almost any legislation? And what would be the next step then? They have a clear majority, so they can override the Bush veto, right? Or is that incorrect. Seems to me that Bush vetos alot, and the majority of one can’t seem to find the votes in the Republican side to make them stick. Not much of a majority, is it?

You are right about nuclear power though. We need more of it.
