(BEIJING, August 9) — Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic won the first gold of the Beijing Olympic
Games today when she won the Women’s 10m Air Rifle. Emmons, 24, was in scintillating form, breaking Olympic records in both the qualification and final rounds.
In the qualification round, Emmons shot a perfect 400, which equaled the World Record and set a new Olympic Record. The previous Olympic Record was 399.
In the final round, Emmons shot 103.5, giving her a final score of 503.5, which eclipsed the previous record of 502.0 set by China’s Du Li at Athens 2004.
Note to self: DO NOT cheat on this girl. She’s kill you from 500 yards away.
I would also give her a gold . . . for hotness!

Great job by the Czechs! Congrats.
Um…shooters are MUCH less likely to shoot you as swimmers are to drown you or softball folks to beat you to death with a bat. Shoot-em-dead-from 500 used to be funny. Now, not so much.
Lotta women shooters look like this kid. To me she looks like my daughter.
Great shooting! World records under pressure AND while eating Chinese food. Don’t play poker with this kid, she’s got ice blood under pressure.

Speaking as a former air-rifle competitive shooter (way back in college), I can confess as to just how absurdly good a shot that woman would have to be to score a perfect 400.
Also, that is a bloody beautiful rig.

Earl - Interesting liberal hippie note: During the highlights of this event, the network never showed the competitors firing a shot. Just aiming and aftermath. Weak.
Rick - I posted her because:
1. The story (and the score) is remarkable.
2. She (like me) has roots in the former Czechoslovakia.
3. She’s a hot redhead!
