“No Soup For You!”
By Wyatt Earp | July 25, 2008
That is Kyle’s new catch phrase when he makes a save against me when we play hockey in front of the house. Thankfully, he keeps the trash-talking in the happy box during his games. The last thing I need is for my seven-year old to become like The Badger. Kyle’s team has been on a roll this season, and he is enjoying his time as goaltender.
The boy is playing very well in net this year, and makes a pad save here in the first period of Monday night’s game:
The good news is that Kyle is still occasionally playing a position other than goal, and is taking quality shots – like this goal in the pre-game warm up:
Kyle’s team won again on Monday night by a score of 3-1. He lost his shutout with ten minutes left in the third period, but played in goal for the entire game. His team is undefeated at 3-0.
I am very, very proud of him.

I guess saying “that’s sweet” wouldn’t be the appropriate phrase here. How about…. THAT ROCKS!!!
Deanna – That’ll work, dear.
Cool Wyatt. I think I like your kid almost as much as you do. I think he’s going to be a star!
Buy him some Cheezy Poofs
DesertSage – Believe it or not, the wife bought me some Chee-tos for my recovery. Ha!
Good for Kyle! He a good kid.
Obviously, his father’s moral perfection and physical aspirations have been transferred by a great deal of love, attention and loving discipline. Like father like son.
Rt – Yes, he is.
Insol – Thank you, sir. It’s a tremendous compliment to me that he wants to play the sports that Dad plays (or played). Lacrosse, hockey, and soccer.
I don’t want to add weight to his burden, but that is a great son – you are justified in your pride. Punch him once gently for being a wonder, and watch him carefully for you love him much.
I just love that type of attitude in a youngster.
Did you pass along the snark genes to him? It sounds like you did to me.
You must be very proud of him.
He could probably do even better if he didn’t always have that other kid screening him…
Earl – He’s definitely the athlete of the family (so far), and he always hustles. I would rather see hustle than talent, but I think he has both.
Admiral – No, he was always a little snarky. And he always tells me my favorite sports teams/stars (Jeff Gordon, Michigan football, New York Rangers) stink.
RFTR – Believe it or not, he’s the other goaltender. I think he’s trying to help, but Kyle is always looking around him. Kyle hasn’t learned to shout “Screen!” yet.
