Iran Shows Off Newest Strike Fighters
By Wyatt Earp | July 27, 2008

And they are the pinnacle of 1974 technology!
Are you done laughing yet, because this story just gets funnier: apparently, the “photos” of the F-14s and the MiG 29s are actually pictures of plastic models!
I can’t find the photo gallery on the Foreign Ministry website, but they have been known to dabble in this sort of thing. A Mossad officer quoted in the Time piece I linked earlier called them a “paper tiger”; who could have guessed that that was literally true? Or is this all an elaborate ruse to convince western spooks that their capabilities are more primitive than they actually are? Honestly — model airplanes on a government website, knowing that the Israelis are watching? Dude. (H/T – Hot Air)
In other news, Iran unveiled its other weapons of mass destruction: the M1 Garand rifle, the Russian T-34 tank, and a devastating weapon known only as “Little Boy.” Heh. You really have to click on the link to see the hysterical video.
Thanks to Deanna, who found this story and gave me the laugh of the week!

Next thing you know, they’ll be buying up Battleship so that they can take pictures of the increased size of their fleet. ;P

Actually I remember them flying the F-14’s out of Bandar Abas back in 1975 when they were new (and we had just trained them). They were not too agressive, since they basically got shot if they crashed an airplane and survived…
