Overnight Thread

By Wyatt Earp | May 26, 2011

This may be a downer of an overnight thread, but I had to ask double duty on the prayer front.

The first request is prayers for Mrs. Earp. She had an appointment with my dermatologist last week to have a mark on her forehead examined. The doc scraped off a sample and sent it out to the lab. Obviously, with my skin cancer surgery, we were both a little stressed. The results came back today:

The sample was deemed “pre-cancerous.”

Now, I don’t know what the frak that means. I figure it should either be cancerous or not cancerous, but I’m not a doctor – although I play one with the missus once in a while. For the wife, it means she has to have the pre-cancerous area frozen and removed. Her procedure is scheduled for next month – two days after I go in for the oil gland. Hooray. So, if you can spare them, a few prayers for the missus would be appreciated.

The second request is for Dr. Evil. He just found out that his dog was diagnosed with bone cancer, and the docs don’t think Scar has a lot of time left. I don’t need to tell you how important pets are to those who have them, so if you can send prayers their way, too, I would be grateful.

In the meantime, laughter is the best medicine, and only one show can poke fun at cancer and get away with it:

Prayers and good thoughts for the Earps. My wife went through it 3 times. You never want to hear “you need a biopsy”. We’re with your family…..always………

OK, I’m a jokester. But in all seriousness, I just said a prayer for your wife.

Dr. Evil, I’m sitting on my couch with my dog too. You and Scar…God bless.

As for you, Wyatt? Keep this in mind… Every inch of scar tissue on your face takes off 20 pounds from your frame. Don’t fear the scars… Embrace them…

Or you could just do hours and hours of exercise and sensible dieting, which is hell on earth.

    Embrace the facial scars Wyatt….

Wyatt – My prayers for the Missus for a successful procedure and for her peace of mind till then.

Dr. Evil – Sorry for the death of your friend. When Pepe my black lab died Dec 23rd I found myself collecting quotes about dogs for a few days, don’t know why, but it helped me release my friend to God in my mind. Never having had children, dogs were my children, I hope you don’t mind if I share a few with you?

God made the earth, the sky and the water, the moon and the sun. He made man and beast. But he didn’t make the dog, He already had one.

The dog is the most faithful of animals and would be much more esteemed if not so common. Our Lord God made his greatest gift the commonest.

Prayers sent! But I’m sure she will be fine! I mean, it’s not like it’s fun . . . of course you’re worried. best to be safe and they’re being safe

Dr. Evil – I’m so, so sorry. Been there with a young dog (and a young cat too). Cancer in pets – ugh. I hope they make some strides with dx’ing and treating there. Someday.

Jon Brooks – thank you so much for those quotes. wow. I’m all teary!

Prayers again duly offered for the Earps.

Dr. Evil – I’ve been there. I’m with you. Mackie was a great, great dog that we lost to cancer about three years ago. That dog didn’t have anything but loving bones in his body. Unfortunately, at the end he had a cancer they couldn’t treat. I still miss him. If you haven’t, read Mark Levin’s “Rescuing Sprite.” (That last piece of advice is for all dog lovers, too.) I guarantee your eyes will be moist at the end.

Thank you all for your support. Unfortunately my dog, the beloved Scar Butt, went to sleep Wednesday around noon. If I ever figure out how to post a picture I will. Thanks again all, he’s in a better place now and pain free.

So sorry Wyatt…My best for Mrs. Earp’s health as well of course.

Precancerous is what I dealt with when I kept getting bad paps and having biopsies done and having to have cryo treatments. (Or whatever it’s called when the doctor froze my cervix after hacking away at it.)

Precancerous means it is NOT cancer. However, there is a chance it can become cancer if left alone. So, it is (relatively) good news.

I will keep your family in my prayers.

Dr. Evil: I am sorry about your dog. I know it will hurt for a while and you will miss him for a long time to come. I will pray for you.

    *hugs* to everyone.

I’ve had several small, benign discolored spots removed from my face, hads and arms over the years, by my GP doctor in his office using a Q-tip dipped in liquid nitrogen. He referred to them as “pre-cancerous”. Alarmed, I asked what that meant. He explained that if they were left alone, they would eventually develop into skin cancer, and then require surgical removal. Nothing to worry about today.

Thanks everyone. And the pre-cancerous definition really helps. I appreciate all the prayers and thoughts for Mrs. Earp and Dr. Evil.
