President Obama: Teaching Boredom 101

By Wyatt Earp | September 12, 2009

Barack Obama School Students

Just when you thought it was safe to enter America’s schools . . .

President Obama made news this week when he broadcast a speech to American students from Wakefield High School, in Arlington, Virginia. Because, you know, every teenager wants to be bored to death by a typical, corrupt politician.

This laughable publicity stunt is the topic of this week’s Family Security Matters article. Here’s a taste:

President Obama raised a few eyebrows this week when he delivered a speech to the nation’s “utes” through a message broadcast to America’s schools. Before the event, which was broadcast over the Internet, the lines were drawn – with chalk, of course – between those who applauded the address, and those who decried it. Supporters claimed that it was yet another brilliant move by a charismatic president who has no peer when it comes to public speaking. Detractors argued that the president was using the speech to deliver a potentially “socialist” message to students he was using as props.

The truth probably lied somewhere in between. President Obama is a very gifted public speaker, and his style resonates well with younger Americans. Taking his message to the schools can be seen as a masterstroke. On the other hand, while Mr. T’s message of “Don’t be a fool, stay in school,” is an admirable one, the president’s address is self-serving, and the captive audience is a perfect photo op.

Unless you have been living under a rock, or in Lindsay Lohan’s house, you have probably heard about the controversy:

President Obama plans to tell the nation’s school children that they ultimately are most responsible for their own education. The White House posted Obama’s remarks Monday, for a speech scheduled Tuesday, on its Web site . . .

While the White House released the transcript for the speech on Monday, it was the edited, final draft. The president and his speechwriters failed to destroy the rough draft, and that transcript made its way to the FSM Headquarters in sunny, scenic Detroit, Michigan. (Well, the talented writers are stationed in New York. The office of the idiot Official Satirist is housed in the Comfort Inn in the “Cracktown” section of the Motor City.)

Please read the rest of the frivolity HERE.

I’m not sure why he gets the rep as such a great orator. It always seemed to me that Obama got his speeches from “Platitudes-R-Us”.

The guy is all fourish and no substance. Not being able to explain your own health plan does not bode well. He is horrendous at having to think on his feet and all we get is a string of ums, ahs and uhs sans the TOTUS. Such an extensive voacabulary for the leader of the free world.

My kid asked me to write a note saying she could not watch this when they finally got around to showing it at her school. I wouldn’t, but wrote one saying it was her choice. Friday afternoon I asked how it went. She decided to stay in class, but worked on a sketch part of the time.

My 13 year old child said the following to me when I asked her about it:
It was okay, but nobody was paying much attention. Personally, I don’t think anything he says is very exciting and he tells too many lies.
