Hot, Brainy Celebs

By Wyatt Earp | May 15, 2009

No, that is not an oxymoron. And for those of you in Rio Linda, I am not calling you a moron.

FOXNews presented a photo essay of brainy babes yesterday, so I figured I’d take the bait. Most of them were people who got into a “prestigious” college, only to drop out soon thereafter. Screw that. There were three, though, who made it through college and lived to tell the tale.

Kate Beckinsale studied French, Russian and literature at Oxford University. She also won the W.H. Smith Young Writers’ competition twice with short stories and poems.

Not bad, but Danica McKellar takes the top honors. If she gets kids to think math is cool, she goes way up on the hotness scale.

Wonder Years alum Danica McKellar majored in Math at UCLA and graduated summa cum laude in 1998. Since that time she has authored two math books -”Math Doesn’t Suck: How to Survive Middle-School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail,” which encourages girls in middle school to enjoy and succeed at mathematics and “Kiss My Math: Showing Pre-Algebra Who’s Boss.”

Gorgeous Natalie Portman has said she would “rather be smart than be a movie star,” and managed to be both by graduating from Harvard with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and maintaining a super successful career. (H/T - FOXNews)

Dang. They are all probably too hot to fall for my pickup lines.

    Wyatt,
Check out Pauley Perrette, Abby on NCIS.
She graduated with straight ‘A’s in sociology, psychology, and criminal science from Valdosta State University in Georgia.

Just yesterday we were in a toy store looking for educational related material and I saw the book, “Math doesn’t suck”. I thought it was about the most funny thing I saw all day. Great catch. MUD

On the male side, there is Brian May of Queen:

Currently, Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.
Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2005 for “services to the music industry”.
Ranked 39th in Rolling Stone magazine list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”.
    Several Honarary Doctorates.
& (in his own right) PhD in Astrophysics at Imperial College, London.

(On second thoughts, maybe he doesn’t look quite as good!)

Jack - Did just that. Hubba, hubba! (Although I like her as a brunette more than a blond.)

MUD - I’m all for that kind of stuff. My son Kyle loves math, and I told him it’s the most important subject he will ever learn. He has the knack for it, unlike his dad.

Alan B - But he has a big, overstuffed brain.

Wyatt: Like you, I used to think people who went to Harvard were smart. Then I read about Al Gore. And then I heard about Jamie Gorelick.

    Harvard. Boo! Hiss!

    Miriam - Wow, great point!

    … and big overstuffed hair!

Maybe women go for that …
