Hell Comes To Necktown
By Wyatt Earp | September 13, 2011
When I was growing up – a process that’s still not completed – I was a huge wrestling fan. Most guys my age were at the time. And with wrestling – as in Star Wars – it was always cooler to cheer for the bad guys.
For me, they didn’t get any badder than Rowdy Roddy Piper. He was the man who called out Hulk Hogan for the puss-aah he was. He was the man who infamously assaulted Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka with a coconut. And apparently, he is to ever wear a skirt kilt.
Wrestling icon Rowdy Roddy Piper says doctors at UCLA are about to slash his neck open and take a hammer and a chisel to his neck bones, after discovering he’s been wrestling with a BROKEN NECK.
57-year-old Piper went to his Twitter and explained he had been experiencing neck pain for quite a while, but didn’t think it was a big deal. In fact, he says he was WRESTLING through the pain for the past couple of months. But Piper says he got an MRI recently and when the docs saw the results, they went into “911 mode” and scheduled a surgery as quickly as they could. (H/T – RT)
God, I hope the injury wasn’t caused by a coconut strike!
And, with any Roddy Piper story, I have to link this. (Slightly NSFW – an F-Bomb.)
Godspeed, Roddy. Get well soon.

LDIV – Mine too. One of John Carpenter’s best.

Carpenters best was the remake of ‘The Thing’. Did he also make that one vampire movie with James Woods as the vampire hunter? I know I could google it but I’m lazy today.
As for mr. Piper…now THATS hard corps!

“They Live” is a classic, in my opinion.
Jon: Carpenter did make the movie “Vampires” with James Woods.

I always loved Roddy too! And pro wrestling, back in the day . . .
that movie was great but how about that soundtrack!
(god-awful, I think Carpenter did it himself)

Jon – “The Thing” scared the hell out of me. Fine piece of film-making.
BobG – And the classics never go out of style.
Orchid – He did. He also did the soundtrack to “Escape From New York,” which is actually pretty good.

OMG, I love Rowdy Roddy Piper in They Live! I would be hard pressed to choose between that clip and the “chew bubblegum and kick ass” scene. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

Rowdy Roddy rules! And They Live was a masterpiece of B-movie making.

As a fellow piper, I hope he comes through this.

Sally Anne – I’ve posted that clip here before, too. One of the greats.
John D – Indeed it is.
Piper – As do I.
