Homeowner’s Assoc. Dishonors War Hero
By Wyatt Earp | December 3, 2009
If this story does not make your blood boil, I don’t know what will.
90 year-old Colonel Van Barfoot has until Friday to remove the flagpole from his yard.
Barfoot lives in the Sussex Square community in western Henrico County. He moved there in July, and was ordered to remove the flagpole from his front lawn when he flew the flag on Labor Day, and again on Veterans Day.
Okay, the man won the MEDAL OF HONOR!!! Maybe, just maybe, the idiots at Sussex Square should show him some God-damned respect!
The homeowner’s association doesn’t explicitly forbid flagpoles but they must be “aesthetically appropriate”. Short flags are allowed on porches, but Barfoot says that’s not the way he was raised to respect the flag.
“First of all, it’s not dignified, and it shows you got it in the half mast position… you can walk around here and I’ll bet you the American flag is hanging out in the rain, nobody ever checks it”, says Barfoot.
Family members say he’s the most decorated American combat veteran alive. Barfoot has been awarded more than 20 medals, including the Medal of Honor, The Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts.
Wounded in combat three times, Barfoot fought in World War II and in Vietnam. (H/T – WTVR.com)
Colonel Barfoot said he will take the matter to court, but why should he have spend the time, energy, and money to do so? The man is an American hero, who fought to preserve the very freedom the people at Sussex Square are denying him today. Despicable.

Bunch of bullying yard nazis.
Sort of makes you want to visit the HOA meeting there and do a major bitch-slapping of all the people running it.

Google his citation – this guy single handedly stormed 3 German MG nests, and captured a number of German prisoners. The Germans then counter-attacked with 3 tanks – he knocked out the lead tank with a bazooka at 75 yards – causing the other tanks to turn away. He then carried a number of mortally wounded comrades back to the lines.
Barfoot should be allowed to fly his god damn underwear in his front yard for the service he gave to this country.
Between this story and the SEALs being court martialled, I’m about to pop a vein here…

A richmond law firm has volunteered to take the case, no charge. That does not excuse the behavior of these idiots. Currently, my bet is they will completely back down as the Richmond area including Chesterfield, Hanover, and Henrico are having thousands of people voice their support for him. I think the 9 board members probably wished they could go into hiding some place. They are being pilloried by the local newspaper, TV and radio news outlets.
In addition to being nazi wannabes they must also be stupid.

I’m hoping that Mr. Patch will get some pro-bono legal representation if they choose to drag this farce out in court.
December 3rd, 2009 at 5:14 pm
I hope he makes his court appearance in uniform.
It would be great to see a small detachment of soldiers arrive at his home to first hoist colors and then escort him to the court house.
Or even better, a group of Patriot Guard Riders. Those guys ROCK!
F the HOA.

To quote several Marines I know
“F**K those F**king F**kers”.
Andrew and Jason nailed this one.

Seems he is not done thrashing Nazis. Hopefully he does an equally good job on these condo-nazis as he did the German kind.

I will gladly help Colonel Barfoot remove the flagpole so I can stick it kindly up the Association President’s ASS!!!

I agree with Andrew; COL Barfoot has earned the right to fly whatever the hell he wants to wherever the hell he wants to. These freakin feather merchants need to sit down and shut up, and be thankful a man like the colonel lives in their neighborhood.

Of all the news stories listed, I’ve yet to find any type of link to the HOA. Anyone know how to contact these brainless ninnies so that we can bombard them with mail and/or calls?
God Bless Barfoot and God Bless America!

Just make a note, after the revolution, no blindfold for these jerks… joking of course, they can have a blindfold.

The deadline has been extended one week (first sign of capitulation). Besides his heroic deeds he is one of a very few people who raise the flag in the AM and respectfully lower it in the afternoon. Here is a link to more details on the story. I lived in Va. for a number of years.http://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/local/article/FLAG031_20091202-234201/309270/

If I was this guy, I’d almost be tempted to paint my house like a giant flag.
Poor old guy, he’s done his duty, let him have some peace.

This is ridiculous, the man won the Medal Of Honor so these idiots could have the Freedom to have a Homeowners Association. They need to show him some respect.

Had my Dad still been around, this would have been fun. Dad was in Korea, Vietnam and a place called Quemoy. The tour in Vietnam was before the US was “in” Vietnam.
He would have offered to hog tie and brand the board and the law firm representing this board. And I mean every last one of them, including the girl at the front desk answering the phones. Cowboy from the Montana High Plains, OK? Wyatt understands, I think.
Dad walked from the 38th to the Yalu and back. On Quemoy, they got shelled all day long by the Chicoms. And at night the Chicoms would try and sneak over the 1.5 miles of water. One night Dad and three of his buddies took a 60mm mortar, a Browning M-2, rifles and grenades up on the rocks. This was in direct violation of the rules, as they were advisers. Result: The only Chicoms that made the rocks did so face down. This was 1958, I was four. It took twenty years to get the decorations, Bronze Stars. One of his comrades was already dead. To the board of this MOH recipient’s HOA and it’s law firm, go fuck your selves. If it was me close by, I would pound the shit out of all of them. Jail be damned.
And as Wyatt, some of you know me as another cancer survivor. What are they gonna do?

I’ll bet the ACLU didn’t jump up and take this one. You don’t earn the Medal of Honor, it is awarded to people that perform above and beyond what would be expected. That bunch of ACLU guys should be taken down by the ACLU for not supporting this type of situation. He needs to move away from there and find people that understand that there are some of us that care. MUD

I would like to play bagpipes for this man; I know about 600+ tunes; I would start with the first one I learned.

BobG – Or at least protest the damned place.
Andrew – I know. The disrespect is becoming epidemic.
Ralph – And they’re stuck on that setting, I’m afraid.
Smite – I don’t see you as a conformist. Just sayin’.
Fenway_Nation – A local firm is allegedly taking the case, no charge.
Jason – “I’d stand up, but this Medal of Honor is weighing me down.”
Ingineer66 – Agreed.
Marvin – I hope so. They need a sound thrashing.
Naked Patriot – That would be a truly deserving punishment to these jerkasses.
Dave – I guarantee there is not one veteran on this board.
BookenDano – If I find a link, I’ll post it here.
Old NFO – Unbelievable, isn’t it?
Rob – Blindfolds are also outlawed in the condos. Heh.
DL474 – Reading the story just makes me so angry. What happened to common sense in this country?
Stephen – And they don’t appreciate his actions, or their own freedom. Disgusting.
Glenn – Not a darned thing. And it sounds like you Dad was one of the true good guys.
MUD – Since when does the ACLU stand up for heroes? Never.
Piper – He sounds like someone who should have his own theme song.

Neal Boortz is right… every year they should take an HOA at random and execute them live in Pay Per View TV. I’ve lived in a “managed” community for five years now…never again…
December 5th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
LM – I’d probably pay extra for that!
