Rocco Mediate: Class Act
By Wyatt Earp | June 16, 2008
Rocky, Rocky, Rocky!
Yes, Tiger Woods won the U.S. Open today, but not after Rocco Mediate took him through an eighteen-hole playoff and a one-hole sudden death round. Not bad for a guy who isn’t ranked in the PGA’s Top 100.
And all the while, he was openly enjoying himself.
He laughed, he joked, and he savored every minute of his moment in the sun. Sure, he may never find himself in a position to take on the best golfer who ever lived in a major playoff, but for two days he was Tiger’s equal in every way. It was nice to see, especially from someone who, by all appearances, is a generally nice guy – and a Pennsylvania native, to boot.
Congratulations, Rocco. You should be proud of your showing this weekend.

RT – Agreed. Just when you thought they couldn’t top yesterday’s performances.

I wish hime the best and hope only that I will see you again in the same situation, but on the next time you will be the winner. Best of luck.

It was an amazing game to watch. Rocco is a class act.

Susan – I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Admiral – He surely is. I love Tiger, but I was pulling for Rocco.

Army CID shut down for almost two hours during the match today. EVERY agent in the building from Noon til 2 was in the TV lounge.
Crime just had to wait.
Oh, and the “You suck, Tiger” comments after he won were priceless. I think it was the sheer unbelievability of a nobody almost beating the master.

Steve in St. Pete – I think he’s a lot of people’s hero after this weekend.
Rick – Absolutely correct.
Wolf – Our division shut down for the last few playoff holes and the sudden death hole. Most of us were pulling for Rocco, even though most of us are Tiger fans.

Golf is still boring. Sorry. Rocco is a nice guy, but I’d rather watch water freeze.

2nd Place = 1st Loser.
If you’re not first….you’re LAST!

Playing to 2nd with that much class does him a lot of good.
The $810,000 doesn’t hurt so much eigther.

Amazing work by Rocco, he got a private 18-hole play-date with Tiger, a personal lesson that you simply can’t buy. People who say it’s boring should think again and bring their rangfinder and Trigicon or Aimpoint – golf is played at engagement distances and forces you to always think tactically. My cart-bag has a pocket just about big enough for my M4gery…
