It’s Labor Day!

Gabrielle “Union.” Get it? I kill me!
Today is the day to celebrate the American working man and woman. Labor Day is also the unofficial end of summer, so most folks are partying it up with barbecues and soirees. Of course, some of us are working, so . . .
Here’s the origin of Labor Day in America:
The first Labor Day in the United States was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City. In the aftermath of the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the US military and US Marshals during the 1894 Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with Labor as a top political priority. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike. (H/T – Wikipedia)
A day chock full of violence. Coolness! Thankfully, we still keep this tradition alive with drunken fights during major league baseball games.
Have fun today and if you are lucky enough to be off, enjoy your time and try not to think about how corrupt American unions have become. Oh, and maybe think about those of us who have to spend the day in the office instead of with the family units. Just sayin’.
