Officer Tickets Car With Dead Woman Inside

By Wyatt Earp | April 8, 2009

chief-wiggumWell, she shouldn’t have been parking illegally!

So you know, this incident happened in Alabama. Now while it would be easy to make a stereotypical crack about the education levels of many in that state, I have readers there, so I won’t go there.

Although the temptation to do so is pretty strong. I’m just sayin’.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A parking enforcement officer issued a ticket for a pickup truck outside an Alabama emergency room while a woman lay dead inside the vehicle, authorities said.

Rebecca Kate Haley, 25, had been dead for at least seven hours when an illegal parking ticket was put on the windshield, authorities said.

Police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams Jr. said the officer didn’t see Haley because she was slumped over in the truck’s cab. Drug paraphernalia was found in the truck. (LINK)

Um, no offense, but if the officer placed the ticket on the windshield, how did he not see the woman was slumped over in the truck’s cab. I have given out plenty of tickets when I was in patrol, and I am 99% sure there weren’t any dead people inside the vehicles when I issued them.

Okay, maybe 85% sure.

We had a dude shoot himself in the head while seated in his car, parked in front of a restaurant, and it was six hours before anybody found him. Granted, none of us wrote the guy a ticket, but no telling how many people walked right past him, and never noticed the guy with a gunshot wound in his head.

That and you’re in Philly, so it’s not like you have a lot of room to talk.

    Alabama has a police force???

I thought they still used the militia.

If anybody from that state wishes to throw stuff at me, please let it be your jumbo shimp.

We had one of those in one of LASD’s patrol areas several years ago…..guy ate his gun in the driver’s seat, making a rather obvious errrrr….mess…….

A parking enforcement guy somehow missed the ‘mess’ and put a ducket on the windshield anyway

I was not there, so I don’t know what happened. However, I have seen a lot of Alabaman pick up trucks, but I have yet to ever see one that wasn’t jacked up on monster tires that put the bottom of the windshield six feet from the asphalt. Ticket writer might have been a little guy, and couldn’t see up that high.

It also has been really cold down in the lower south, so there may have not been a real good smell to go on either.

Still it is a huge freaking thing to miss.

Dr. Jim - Who knew this was happening?

    RT - Correct.

JumpOut - Maybe they thought it was a big pimple?

cbullitt - You mean the ones who don’t tell the officers a man has a gun before cops are killed?

    JoeMama - Touche’.

Kaveman - Jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon. *drools*

Deputy Polarbear - Oh, for frak’s sake!

Marvin - You would think the officer would have noticed, but there you are.
