I get that the old coot was unresponsive to paying, but I assume at some point he was also unresponsive to the lap dance. Wouldn't that "raise" questions or are most guys totally passive to those?

Bob G. - The New Jersey is a monster. We took the tour a few years ago, and she's a sexy beast.

Dr. Evil - Especially the Yamato, which was converted into a space battleship. Oh wait...

Hutch1200 - We took a guided tour, but didn't stay overnight. It's such a gorgeous ship.

Robert B. - I wish there was still a use for them, but modern warfare spelled their doom.

Real - You can count the number of times I've been in NYC on one hand, but I always wanted to visit the Intrepid.

Stormhammer - I thought that, too. Desert Freedom.

Wes S. - We had a look inside the 16" guns' fire control of the New Jersey. Not a place for a fat guy during WWII. Very cramped.

L Frame - The Greatest Generation.

Ferrell - No, I was not, but I doubt true "invitations" were offered. Most likely, "Hey rook, you're going to Chicago."

Bob - Jesus! Hope everything is okay!

LDIV - I'd be surprised if they have a chance to see the sights. Our supervisors will keep them on lockdown.

Real - The big deal is that we can't spare 67 officers to protect another city when Philly needs all of the manpower it can get. The summer vacation period starts this weekend, so we'll have even less manpower, and in a town with (now 128) homicides, losing one or two cars per district it a huge deal.

I had a chance to visit the North Carolina once when I was in the area. The thing I was most impressed with was the size of the sleeping compartments that held like 80 sailors. The area was like a small bedroom, they must have been so crowded they must have had to agree to turn over all at the same time. During WWII the sailors spent months at sea, in unbelievably crowded conditions.

Had a chance to get an up close and personal look at the third Iowa, USS Missouri (BB-63), during Fleet Week in Monterey, CA back in 1987 IIRC. (I was studying Russian at Monterey's Defense Language Institute at the time.)

The recently-refurbished and recommissioned Missouri's next stop was the Persian Gulf; this was shortly after USS Stark had stopped a couple of blind-fired, Iraqi-launched Exocets during the Iran/Iraq War. One of the Missouri's sailors, when I asked him if he was worried about missiles, just laughed.

"Dude," he told me, "even if one gets past the Spruances and Aegis ships, we've got eighteen inches of armor plate on the hull and superstructure. An Exocet might scratch the paint, but we've got plenty of paint and brushes in the lockers..."

And, he went on to say with a grin, over two dozen Tomahawk missiles - added during the Iowa class' eighties refit - that would be hitting whichever airfield the launching aircraft came from just about the time the shooter returned to base.

Heck Wyatt - don't know what's the big deal here. Here in Charlotte -where we have a much smaller Police Force (which is county wide) even if you add in all the smaller town police forces throughout the county, we are sending 110 police officers to Chicago and an unspecified number of "Supervisors" to watch how the Chicago P.D. manages things.
This of course, because the DNC is going to be in Charlotte and there are rumors going around (///) that there may be MOBS here in Charlotte. Since we don't have any real experience with MOBS (which is a good thing cause we have such a small force) we're going up to Chicago to see how a MUCH BIGGER Police Force handles things.
Things are probably going to be ugly here when the DNC rolls into town.
Hope Chicago sends some of their officers back down here to repay us, we'll need ALL the help we can get.
