2 Million Hits!

Just a few minutes ago, the ridiculous little blog welcomed its two millionth visit. When I mentioned this milestone a week ago, I wasn’t nearly as excited as I was for the first million; although I’m not sure why. When SYLG first started getting popular, I would text Code Monkey, every hour on the hour, and ask her what my hit count was. (At the time, I couldn’t check my site meter at work.) I was obsessed over hits. If my numbers were down, I would panic, and try to post something that would draw the readers back in. It was pathetic.
Now, I’m much less psychotic. Partly because I’ve matured – no, really – and partly because I’ve resigned myself to the fact that SYLG will never be an Ace of Spades HQ or an Instapundit. This blog is what it is: a nice little place to go for your daily dose of snark. I started out small, with a loyal group of readers and commenters. I’m still small – well, the blog is: I’m all man downstairs – and I still have a loyal group of readers and commenters. I’m more than happy with seeing 1,500-2,000 visits a day and 5-10 comments per post. As I’ve always said, this blog is successful because of you, not because of me.
It took four years and eleven months for this blog to reach one million hits. It took me 17 months to reach my second million.
Seventeen months. And you guys are the ones who made it happen. I am truly humbled by your readership and contributions, and I promise to do my best to entertain you in the months and years to come.

The lucky visitor was from Offenbach, Germany, looking at a post from March, 2009 on the Manson Family. Yeah, I get hits from everywhere – for everything.

You are no small potatoes fine sir. Most blogs never even reach this kind of milestone. And out of all the blogs out there very few get 1,500-2,000 daily visits.
Congrats man. You are an inspiration to other bloggers. You prove the point that compelling content and a good community is a solid blog model. And yet so many bloggers still worry about silly stuff like SEO.
