Graduation Day!

By Wyatt Earp | June 11, 2010

Yesterday was my son’s last day of school. The kindergarten class is done before the other students, and they gave the kids a graduation ceremony in the parish hall. Erik – pictured here with his teacher, Mrs. Fox – couldn’t wait for this day. First, he was excited because he was chosen as one of the speakers for the event. Second, he was psyched because summer vacation started the second he left the hall.

We were a little worried about kindergarten because Erik had a few tough moments during pre-school. For a while early on, he didn’t want to go, and would cry when we left him at school. Thankfully, those issues disappeared this year. It was comforting for him to know that Kyle was in the same building now, and despite his initial shyness, Erik makes friends rather easily – especially with the girls.

Thankfully, I was night work last night, so I was able to attend the festivities. While the missus – and the grandparents – were corralling the babies, I was taking video. First of his reading:

Then of him receiving his diploma:

Afterward, there was a reception with snacks and small gifts for the graduates. Erik came back with a plate consisting of a cupcake, cookies, and a doughnut. Good times. Congratulations, Erik! We love you very much!

Roger – Thanks. Can’t wait, especially wife beater Brett Myers is pitching for the Astros tonight. Hopefully, the Bombers rock him.

GroovyVic – Kyle still has a week left, and Erik reminds him of that every day.

MeToo – The first video, where he spoke, had to be memorized. I was happy he was up to the task.

Smite – Thanks. He takes after mom.

Danny – Thank you. I get to take him to t-ball tomorrow. With Kyle’s lacrosse, I haven’t been able to see Erik play yet this season.

    Bob – I plan to.

I got pinned downed in the sandbox by Juanita Taylor at aged seven and she kissed me 22 times, on the mouth.
God..60 years later I love her.

Congratulations Erik! God bless you and your whole family.

We had a Kindergarten graduation this week, too. Jimmy, our adopted grandson, had the letter ‘V’ in the Florida Alphabet song. It stands for Vrooooom… and Daytona. He loved the choice (good boy). On the other hand, “N stands for Naples where the old folks go” and last night he asked if I was a Naple. Raising three pre-teens in my 50′s may not be what I planned, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

Wyatt, I have to say how much I respect and appreciate your obvious love and dedication for your family. Keep up the good work.
