Another Reason To Avoid Spain

By Wyatt Earp | May 23, 2010

You know, besides all of the Spanish people.

Authorities in Barcelona, fed up with tourists wandering the streets in their swimming costumes, are preparing a massive campaign to convince them to put on clothes when they leave the beach.

“We want to make people understand that it’s an attitude that we don’t like, that it’s not banned or punishable but that it’s something we don’t think is civil,” a spokeswoman for the city hall said Friday.

Municipal authorities in the seaside Spanish city have already printed posters showing a couple in swimming costumes with a red line across it, along with another couple dressed normally but without the red line.

Yeah, I think I saw similar signs in Nazi Germany. Fascists!

People in that drawing with the slash look pretty flat chested to me. I think they’re just saying that unattractive people should not wear swimsuits on the streets!

Folks from Quebec go to their beaches, too?

Saw a sign in Cannes, France once, a long time ago. At the beach, Swim wear is optional.

They don’t have those signs on the beaches on the Outer Banks. In some cases personally witnessed on spring vacation, that would not have been a bad idea. However, in most cases it would have sucked royally to see such a sign.

Having been to Barcelona ( New Years week in 1977, to give you an idea how frakkin old I am) I can tell you that, at the time, I thought it was one of the nicest cities in Europe. Great people, fantastic sangria & lovely ladies. Lots of folks from Great Britian, Germany, etc. come ther on holiday. Maybe it was them that the local government had a problem with…. Just sayin’

Last time I was in Spain it was filthy, polluted, the water was rancid, the people predominantly unfriendly. Other than that I had a great frackin’ time. You can HAVE Spain.

I was there on deployments in 74-75 and 75-76 aboard Independence CV 62. I did get to Mallorca in 87 on Kitty Hawk CV 63. Note that those vessels are now awaiting the torch in Bremerton, WA.

Maybe they should worry about all the hookers that roam the highways in Spain before they set there sites on bikini wearing tourists.

I think Old NFO nailed it. There are lots of people running around our beach cities that should not be wearing skimpy clothes. Sometimes the rest of us are tying to enjoy a meal or just our day and we don’t want to see that. Put on a giant shirt with a bikini printed on it or something. And the hot chicks are going to look hot even if they are wearing clothes over their suits.
