A few years ago I was called to a school, where School Security had 2 girls detained in the office. Security told me the girls had an argument in the lunch room. Security explained they (the school) has a 'Zero Tolerance Policy', and I was to arrest the girls for Disorderly Conduct. I explained that I do not have a zero tolerance policy, and since it's my name and signature that is attached to the citation I will not arrest the girls. Whatever happened to clapping erasers after school?

Danny - I have no problem with them disciplining the girl for writing on the desk. Make her clean it up and maybe keep her after school. Arresting her? Puh-lease!

GroovyVic - And we wonder why so many people are screwed up when they get out of school.

Kim - Which is exactly what the school should have done in this case.

Snigs - That's the root of a lot of these problems. Uninterested, uninformed parents.

Minuteman - We have a very good public school near us, but we chose the Catholic school instead. We haven't looked back.

Piper - And if there's a problem, confiscate the pocketknife until after school. Case closed. Don't waste our time with processing an idiotic arrest.

Mrs. Crankipants - That policy is solely for the bad kids. They need a reward for good behavior.

The principal at my kid's school is implementing a new discipline policy. Children who behave will get rewarded with small prizes and/or special privileges.

I don't want my kid getting a prize for behaving himself,
it's what he's supposed to do! What is wrong with these people?

PC people would be appalled at my school; students carry pocket knives! The SHOCK! The HORROR!

Students know that they're supposed to keep them in their pocket but if they need to sharpen a pencil and the sharpener is not working, it's not a problem where I teach.

Most of the time, sanity is prevalent, thankfully, at my school. I suppose the 'enlighted teachers' would say we're just damned ignorant. I would say to them 'projection'!

Snigs has it right. Too many f..ked up parents and too many f..ked up teachers. Too much political correctness and too little common sense. Too many so called parents that should'nt be allowed to breed. You want your kids to get a good education; then get them out of the public schools if you can.

I think this whole deal is ridiculous, but I know part of what precipitated the "change" that was in progress 20 years ago.

Parents.

A kid wrote on the desk, the teacher gnawed on the kid, handed them a bucket of soapy water and made them clean all the desks in the room. Kid goes home and tells mama and/or daddy about the horrid labor they had to perform as punishment. The next day, kid's parent shows up at the school and raises absolute hell about how unfair it was to make his kid wash ALL the desks, I mean after all, what the child did wasn't really that bad...then threatens a lawsuit for singling their kid out.

Teacher is forced to apologize, school apologizes to avoid lawsuit. The teacher & the school know that if they ever try to "punish" a kid for doing this again the initial incident will come up and there will be more hell to pay, so from this point on they let the cops handle it. The police then get to be the bad guys. The school can then say (when the flap occurs) that the child shouldn't have been arrested, even if they are the ones who incited said arrest, and they don't look nearly as "bad" as the cops do.

Does this mean I can call the cops on my children when they color on the walls? After all, this is a (home) school. And to think all this time silly me has just been making them wash it off.

Can someone help me out here? When did all this zero tolerance stuff happen? Who allowed it? So kids have no constitutional rights?
Kid, 7, brings a 2 inch plastic Lego gun into school? Expelled!
Girl has wooden painted gun (Not even a gun)for twirling in back seat of car at school? Expelled.
School expels boy from school for having 2 unloaded shotguns in his truck parked OFF campus? Expelled!(Over ruled by NRA threat)

Now I read this? Girl taken to cops for scribbling on desk? Reality check time. Our school administrators need to get a real job. All that education and not one penny of common sense.
