Venezuela Destroys 30,000 Guns

That’s okay, because my readership has three times that number in their homes. We’re ready for the zombie apocalypse!
CARACAS – Battling with one of the world’s highest murder rates, Venezuela on Wednesday crushed more than 30,000 guns seized from the streets during police raids this year.
Policemen used blow-torches to chop up some of shotguns and pistols. They compacted weapons including home-made pistols into a 5 ton block, said Interior Minister Tarek Al Aisammi.
With 13,000 murders in 2007, the last time figures were published, violent crime consistently registers as Venezuelans’ main concern in opinion polls. (H/T – Reuters)
Oh sure, they are destroying the guns to cut down on violent crime. This has nothing to do with President Hugo Chavez eliminating any chance the citizens have of overthrowing him.

Sooooo………who did the “police raids” target?
Was it criminals or citizens that were raided?
“Seized from the streets” is kinda vague, no? And really doesn’t make any sense if you think about it.

Can someone tell me how you get the little picture next to your post?
On a recent very long range shoot(Barrett .460 and Barrett .338 Lapua) with several local LEOs we used Zombie paper targets. You know, just in case….

Smite – Heh. Well crafted.
RAPH – I wonder how often the national police was responsible for the rising murder rate?
JeffT – Do you mean the gravatar? My South Park pic? Go to gravatar.com. It’s easy.

maybe ol’ Huggo is torching the peons’ guns because he can’t provide reliable electricity and drinking water and somebody must have told him what happens to politicians who deprive the proles of basic services.
