Friends, New Yorkers, Lend Me Your Cash

By Wyatt Earp | November 14, 2009

New York Deficit

This week, New York Governor David Paterson announced that his state would be dead broke in a matter of days. Wow, a Democrat leader complaining that his municipality is in dire financial straits. Who woulda thunk it?

Paterson’s announcement is the topic of this week’s Family Security Matters article. Here’s a snippet:

When the late, great Frank Sinatra performed the song “New York, New York,” he crooned that he wanted to wake up in a city that never sleeps. Had the Chairman of the Board lived long enough, he could fulfill his desire to wake up in a state that never pays its bills. The Einsteins in Albany are trying to deal with a deficit that would choke a horse, and Gov. David Paterson is trying to convince the legislature that if $3.2 billion – that’s billion with a “B” – in cuts are not made immediately, the state will go the way of Betamax. At this point, it might be a good idea for someone to hire the Yankees front office to balance the books. At least they have a history of spending boatloads of money and actually getting results.

Politicians apparently do not take the same business courses as baseball people, which is painfully obvious considering the financial destruction President Obama’s “stimulus packages” left in its wake. Heck, some people in Detroit are actually wearing barrels and selling apple cores now! David Paterson doesn’t want to see that in his state. Not because he cares about New York, but because he cares about getting reelected.

Remember when he was joking about forcing millionaires, like Rush Limbaugh, out of the state, taking their money with them? Good times!

This is what happens after forty years of using trainloads of the taxpayers’ money to buy votes from the “underclass”. Your welfare roles swell, while your tax base shrinks. You’re left with no one to tax, and cutting any spending is political suicide. So you wind up rearranging the deck chairs as the ship goes down. As someone trapped in the steerage section of the ship, I’m none too amused.

Good God, how does a whole state go broke? And I thought I was bad with the checkbook.

If I remember correctly, the song also says something about “if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere”.

The opposite should also be true. if you can’t make it in New York, you can’t make it anywhere. And it seems the democrats can’t make the nanny state work. Why should we expect them to do any better on the federal level?

Proof – And Rush was laughing about this last week. Rightfully so.

John D – Nor should you be. This guy is a disgrace, and the state senate is just as bad.

DL474 – Apparently, someone forgot to carry the “1.”

Joated – Well, we’re seeing a lot of similarities in the fiscal ruin of New York on a national level. Just ask Nancy Pelosi.

“…and the state senate is just as bad.”

As is the state assembly. The only thing those clowns do well is fill their own pockets.

He stands about as much chance of being re-elected at this point as I do of ending up on the swimsuit edition of SI at 59 yrs of age. People need a mind eraser for both!
