Obama Fires IG Who Investigated Supporter

By Wyatt Earp | June 12, 2009

AmericorpsRemember all of the Democrat outrage when President Bush fired those U.S. attorneys? Remember how the moonbats cried “Scandal!” and demanded Bush and members of his administration be investigated at best, and imprisoned without trial at worst?

Well, well, well,

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says he has lost confidence in the inspector general who investigates AmeriCorps and other national service programs and has told Congress he is removing him from the position.

Obama’s move follows an investigation by IG Gerald Walpin finding misuse of federal grants by a nonprofit education group led by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who is an Obama supporter and former NBA basketball star.

Well, it’s not like the president would interfere in a criminal investigation, right?

Walpin was criticized by the acting U.S. attorney in Sacramento for the way he handled an investigation of Johnson and St. HOPE Academy, a nonprofit group that received hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The corporation runs the AmeriCorps program.

“It is vital that I have the fullest confidence in the appointees serving as inspectors general,” Obama said in a letter Thursday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Joe Biden, who also serves as president of the Senate. “That is no longer the case with regard to this inspector general.”

The president didn’t offer any more explanation, but White House Counsel Gregory Craig, in a letter to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, cited the U.S. attorney’s criticism of Walpin to an integrity committee for inspectors general.

Of course he didn’t offer any more explanation. He doesn’t have to. “He won.” Slublog has a great comment about this over at Ace:

“More evidence that President Obama is everything the left accused George W. Bush of being, but wasn’t.”

Exactly. Oh, and guess who may be involved in the firing? That’s right, Miss Congeniality herself, Michelle Obama.

Mad Michelle Obama

It is fine with the state-run media because it was the Obamnation doing the firing. There has to be a thirty day review before a IG can be terminated. But it did not happen.

The best part is they agreed to repay like $800K but the IG is a no-goodnik. It would be like Wyatt catching a murderer in the act on video with the bloody weapon in his hand but the jury says “Wyatt was so mean to the perp when he did the filmed interrogation”.

Even Randal may be starting to think we are doomed. Heh.

Rick – Technically, he “fractured” the law.

AJ – Firing the guy makes Obama look guilty – especially after the IG was looking into a supporter’s finances.

Old NFO – It’s par for the course here in Philly.

    Admiral – HOPE!!!

    Captain – She’s ugly when she’s angry.

Bob – And it is completely irrational. He’s the POTUS. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Even if Johnson was dirty, no media outlet would ever question Obama about it, and they would never infer that he had anything to do with it. The firing is idiotic, because of the appearance of impropriety.

Jon – She is just an angry, angry woman.

Jack – What, you don’t think running moderate GOPers will work? /snark.
